loppylugs 8,424
Just got back from my first physiotherapy appointment. I'm quite happy with it. It was a lot of assessment and questions to find out what needs work. They trained me on some exercises for my weak hand and foot. sent me home with some homework and another appointment next week to check progress. The therapist owns a Beagle so we had quite a bit to talk about. plus keep doing the organ playing therapy. I think I can live with that. 2
carni 10,094
Your going in the right direction LL. I expect it will take time, but it looks like you are in good hands. Yes, keep up the organ playing, it seems along long time since we watched your progress. You must make us a video to see how you are improving. All the best LL. 3
loppylugs 8,424
Thanks Carni. I will make another video one of these days. For the moment I feel like my abilities have slipped back two or three years. More wrong notes and a slower tempo as my hands try to keep up with my brain. I feel confident it will come back but its gonna take some work. 4

loppylugs 8,424
Actually I'm doing quite well with a little Bach number. 'Com susser Todd' Translation 'Come Sweet Death' sounds a bit mournfull and thats why have been a bit reluctant to record it. It is easier for me to play because it is quite slow. Gives me more time to think. Played well it is quite beautiful and triumphant at the end. we have to remember Bach lost his first wife quite young. Came home from a trip to another town and she was already dead and buried. Some quack doctor cost him his sight. He had it rough at times. If you want to hear it played by a pro' check out Virgil Fox's rendition on Youtube.

Might have had cats and dogs too. I think quite a few of them died young too, though. The kids I mean. It's amazing he lived as long as he did. Often brings me to tears when I play it. Of course that might be just the state of my abilities these days.

I had an appointment at Specsavers (had my last eye test 7 months ago) and a very cute young Spanish gentleman wearing a smart waistcoat looked deeply into my eyes... well, it was his job! He said I have a small bleed in my left eye near the optic nerve, which MAY be caused by hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes or another systemic condition OR it may be glaucoma. He spent about 10 minutes googling what it could be, while I was there... but I didn't mind as he was very handsome... He said I AM losing quite a bit of my central vision, but as I could read the bottom line of tiny print, some part of my eye is working very well. He seemed surprised by that. Anyway, I have a letter for my GP asking if he could do a few tests and then refer me to the eye clinic at Addenbrookes to see what they say. Last time this happened - over a year ago - the specialist at the hospital said there was no treatment needed, so let's hope it'll be the same this time. Just spotted this Margie. I do hope it turns out OK. By coincidence I was just checking my appointment at the Docs on line. (Going to ask what, if anything can be done about the increasing pains in my legs.) I spotted that they've added a new bit to my records. 'Pigmentary Dispersion'. This must come from a report from my hospital eye appointment a week or so back, but the chap at the hospital never mentioned it by name and I've only been told I have the start of a cataract. Anyway, it seems i'm losing bits of pigment from inside my eyes which have the potential to block the drain and lead to glaucoma. They don't seem too bothered though as no review for 12 months.
MargieH 7,594
Love this getting older, Col! NOT I had a cataract op about 18 years ago and it was so easy - no pain or discomfort during or after the procedure. Never heard of pigmentary dispersion but looked it up (as I'm sure you have, too) and it says that it doesn't always lead to glaucoma. Even if it does, it'll just mean daily drops in your eye (my brother has it) Hope you're keeping on top of all your other ailments x

MargieH 7,594
My brother's glaucoma hasn't need any of that to relieve the pressure - just drops - I hope that will be the case If my problem does lead to glaucoma.... .. whatever, as you say, I'll be fine! Urine sample? Was the backache a suspected kidney problem? I think drinking water is good, whatever!
FLY2 10,108
Exactly LL. He told me nothing I didn't already know. Goodness me, at 73, I ain't done too badly.
FLY2 10,108
I had the therapy a couple of years ago Margie, but I gave up the exercises after a few weeks. Yes, I must do more this time. I definitely don't drink enough water, but too much coffee. Although slightly strong, it proved normal. My sample, not the coffee !

( sorry think Ive spelt it wrong spell checker only comes up in Italian. )I have that problem , I don't drink enough and always carry a bottle of water with me. I also have a fitness tracker that I set every hour to remind me to drink. The problem is when it vibrates and I'm busy I don't always feel it. But it is useful. Just a thought ...when I have a TC scan (8march) I have to drink a mix of 1/2 lt for the contrast. On an empty stomach. The worst case is when I have an ecograph scan I have to drink a litre of water before I leave for the hospital, 1/2 hr away then I cant go to the bathroom until the scan is finished.I'm afraid sometimes I just can't drink it but then they tell me that I've not drunk enough.
Stavertongirl 1,713
Fourth week on my new meds, think things are a bit better although still getting some thumping heartbeats, occasionally feel hot but have noticed this week that I am continually hungry at moment. Not noticed any weight gain yet which is a bit disappointing but perhaps it is too soon yet. Got a blood test on Monday, fasting one so chloresteral(?) can be checked as well, got my book club after appointment so will have to nip to cafe and get some toast before I go there. Phone appointment week after for results to see what is happening. Just hope they are starting to work now.
nonnaB 4,893
I too have a blood test Monday. I can have breakfast though as they are looking for at markers.
