Being the newbie I am to N.S. I couldn't work out how to reach out to Physical Perfection to tell him to get on with life as you never know what tomorrow will bring. Obviously at the moment time

I'm a happy Bunny tonight Went for my oncology visit after I had the P.E.T. scan and T.A.C. a couple of weeks ago and all is clear after the scare I had. The next process is due in 6 months after I ha

I'd have a few implants if I could afford it, but at around £2k a shot it would set me back about £20k minimum just to fill a few gaps. I don't have that kind of dosh lying about.

You don’t think I got my perfect smile for nothing do you?

Actually I’ve probably spent more hours in the dentist’s chair than you lot put together ...... but to me it was worth it, my Mum had to have all her teeth out when she was only 40 due to gum disease, I’ve still got 28 teggies but some have been crowned for years.

Just had a count up.  Reckon I've got 23 left.  The tooth I just had root canal in, in a second root.. 'cos the first one had already been done....this being the tooth that broke off at gum level a week or so back, doesn't hurt if I prod it etc.  But the next one along, also crowned by the same bloke at the same time.. is very sensitive to a bit of a prod.  I'm wondering if I've been talked into spending £350 on the wrong tooth.  Some serious questions will be asked on Monday.  And the pain at the moment is nothing much for a hard Bestwoodian like me, but the swelling is already building up.. and I've got a Doc's appt. on Monday so I can moan abahht summat else.. and also supposed to be meeting Picko in the Cavern..

All above said. I've always had teeth which were... to use the correct Orthodontical Terminology.. 'a bit crap'.  I've always cleaned them properly etc., but they've given me 'grief' most of my life.  Luck of the draw I suppose... But I still have a decent head of hair, I can remember my own name.. ( mostly)  and I am obviously a magnificent specimen of manhood, just in need of a 'top up tan' in Meh- Hi- Co..  I just hope that the Me-Hi-Can laydees form an orderly queue for my attentions..  we Brits like a queue.. :)

By Sunday.. the recurring abscess was in full swing.  Just a red bulge on my gum and a bit of pain.  But, by the time I'd been out buying a few bits for my hols, I was feeling more than a bit crappy and my top lip was swelling a bit, which didn't happen last time. There was also an obvious build up of pus..  Nice.

Called the local Dental Emergency line.  Their advice, given I'm an old git with a few issues, was to go to A&E to get assessed.  I went down to Whiston Hospital and the waiting area was packed. New waiting room. Not an improvement and it was  freezing in there. Mercifully only waited about 20 minutes. As I was explaining the 'back story' to the Nurse Practitioner... the abscess burst.. Double nice...

She prescribed Clarythromycin AND my favourite drug Metronidazole so that's a whole load of antibiotics and for 7 days.  Also gave me top strength Co Codamol with 30 mg. Codeine in the mix plus a note for the Mexican Authorites in case they accuse me of being a drug smuggler.. though I think they have a few of their own there...

So, after a partial Dry January then a Dry bit of Feb, I'm now onto a Dry March for nine days.  Oh joy!!

I will be well and truly ready for all that 'all inclusive' booze by the time I hit Cancun..

Didn't eat much today so was starving a little while ago and needed something to absorb the Metrowotsitzole.  Found a tin of mushy peas.  2 minutes in the microwave and a good dollop of Mint Sauce.  Luvleh.. but norrasgud as Goose Fair ones in the 1950s.

Good job you still have a sense of humour, Col.  I  hope it all clears up by the time you go on your trip.

Went to physiotherapy again for a bit of puling and bending.  Actually I think it's helping but I'm a bit achy even in my good leg right now.  I think the exercises in one tend to stress the good one and my hips.  Oh well! No gain without a bit of pain as they say.  I do walk better when I've been there.  Tend to drag my foot when I'm  tired.  Balance still a bit funny.  If a cop ever sees me getting into my car he'll probably give me a breath test.  ;)

I know that feeling Dave, had to learn to walk again after I'd got over Lyme disease, started with a walking stick up my drive, 1/2 a mile, took me about a couple of hours there and back, then stepping and up and down on a concrete building block, working two two pound bar bells weights to gain arm strength...Jeeze it was painful. No pain, no gain.

Regarding cars and cops, if one saw me getting out my truck, he'd accuse me of being intoxicated, my knees have had it and takes me some time to walk properly. All those DUI tests they do I couldn't do these days, I'd fall over, all I could do was request a breathalizer test and be done with it.

I went to see my Doc this morning about the way my legs are getting unreasonably panful sometimes after even quite short walks.  She said the circulation seems OK and I have good pulses in my feet etc.  So, just a suite of blood tests which I got done straight away .  We'll go from there. May wel just turn out to be age related and nothing much to be done.

As for teeth.  I've continued with the antibiotics. Not much pain unless I accidentally get anything into the big hole in my gum where the abscess was. Care needed with hot drinks.

I'm seeing my own dentist tomorrow and have also booked with the specialist who did the root canal. Seeing him on Weds, which means I'll have to cut short my attendance at a funeral for a good friend. Whatever else happens I'm not taking Metronidazole in Mexico as it will stop me having the odd Tequila and can also cause a reaction to sunlight.  I'm going to ask the Dentist to give me a prescription for Clarithromycin to take with me just in case anything kicks off while I'm there.

Just a thought Col, would you use a Mexican dentist? I know people have been to Eastern Europe for dental treatment at one third the price of Britain. Also people going to India for eye operations.

Good point Den, these Asians seem to have a good reputation for eye surgery at much lower cost than anything in the west

Had my TC scan the other day now waiting for result on Friday. Yesterday went to hospital for pain relief. I am now sporting a patch on my arm that I wear for 7 days before changing it. Lets see if it works.

My husband went to Budapest last summer to have a consultation and scans etc with a dentist for teeth implants, he’s got a bridge and a gap.   He’s gone no further with it as he’s had other things taking priority but he’ll probably go back there and have the treatment and I’ll go too and do a bit of sightseeing while he’s in the chair.

My brother-in-law has had quite a few implants done in Costa Rica.  His daughter lives over there and every year when he visits he gets another couple of teeth.

And my sister-in-law has had dental implants done in Poland.

I have had my first blood test results since going on my thyroid tablets. Must say it was nice just to have a telephone appointment rather than having to go to QMC. It seems the tablets are starting to work, the readings have improved, although the T4 reading has gone from too high to just 2.5 into range, hopefully this will go up abit as tablets kick in more. Just continuing with 5mg dose, which I am pleased about. I really don’t like taking tablets so am glad the dose hasn’t been increased, but needs must I suppose. I can’t say I feel much different, although the heartbeat thing doesn’t feel quite as strong as it did, I am still hot but at least it saves having the heating on! I just hope I start putting some weight on now, it would be nice to wear clothes that fit and have trousers that don’t feel like they are going to fall down at any minute. Another blood test in 6 weeks which I hope will show more improvement.

Three friends of ours came to India this year and had new lens in their eye's £750.00 each eye, 20 minutes op no risk of cataracts in the future and absolutely no pain. How much in the uk?. Two of our friends reckon that what they saved  on the uk price has more than paid for the trip, with change to spare!!

My husband had new lenses, done privately at the Circle building at QMC a year or so ago.  It cost him about £9,000.  A lot of money but as he hadn’t got cataracts he wouldn’t have been eligible for the procedure to be done on NHS.  He’s delighted with the result and, unlike most people who have cataract surgery, he doesn’t need to use reading glasses so a bit of a saving there.

So true Lizzie. I've had reading glasses from Vision Express over the years, that have in total exceeded that sum considerably.

Just think Lizzie, you could have had a nice holiday with the difference!. And still had some cash to spare. Was the procedure the same? Ie 20minutes per eye ( two days apart mind) no pain etc?

The surgeon recommended 2 weeks apart but as my husband is impatient it was agreed he could have them done with just a one week gap.   It didn’t take long, I went with him so I could drive him home, we spent a long time hanging around beforehand but once he was in theatre it was very quick.  A bit off-putting hearing a man screaming in a nearby bay in the waiting area though!      Then there were eye drops to administer for about a month afterwards.
