I do wonder if your better not knowing & don't start looking for YouTube videos  my Mum had both knees done, stick with the physio & you'll be fine Col.

You are sort of right Red, although even I draw the line at looking for Youtube Vids.  If my neighbour hadn't told me she asked them to sedate her because of the 'noise/vibration/smells', I wouldn't have thought much about it.  But the other issue now is that the sedation is risky for me.

Soooo.  Several people on another site told me they listened to music through the procedure.

So I've spent much of today finally getting music onto my phone and I have a very nice pair of B&W PX7 headphones, which also feature 'noise cancelling'.. Bluetooth or wired.  Using those and being sufficiently 'zonked' on Diazepam..(As much as they'll let me take..) should get me through it...

Being the newbie I am to N.S. I couldn't work out how to reach out to Physical Perfection to tell him to get on with life as you never know what tomorrow will bring. Obviously at the moment time

I'm a happy Bunny tonight Went for my oncology visit after I had the P.E.T. scan and T.A.C. a couple of weeks ago and all is clear after the scare I had. The next process is due in 6 months after I ha

Well I hadn't intended contributing to this thread but do you want to know how many staples I've got in my tummy?!!  Actually I'll spare you the details but I want to put on record that my experience

Reminds me of my aunt’s episode a several years ago.  She needed a new hip and had been on the waiting list for some considerable time.   She decided to pay to see a Private Orthopaedic Surgeon who said he would be happy to operate on her dodgy hip but she needed to get a heart problem sorted out first.  She didn’t know she had anything wrong with her heart.  So she then paid to see a Cardiologist and ended up in the Park Hospital having a pig’s heart valve fitted!  Not long after that she had a successful hip replacement.  She was fortunate that she could afford all this private treatment.
That replacement heart valve apparently had a 15-17 year life, this was fitted 16 years ago and a couple of months ago it failed and she was back in hospital having a pacemaker fitted.  Sadly she got an infection and passed away on Christmas Eve aged 92.

Dj its normal at least here to have an ecocardiagram before any operation. I have all my records plus all my discs from TACS, ecographs and PETS. My files are getting bigger. Tomorrow PET results and oncology visit.

You'll be fine its just a formality. All the same good luck with it.

Been feeling agitated all morning, but many thanks for the good wishes.

Nothing showed up on the P.E.T. but they picked a shadow on my liver ( hence the extra exam) But every time I have some sort of scan it shows up and the onc and drs think its the scar from thermoblation I had twice. My results have been seen by a group of specialist drs in oncology and they said although they were stopping all future tests they thought it wise to have an MRI. So now I have to wait another fee weeks or months and they will ring me along with a visit with onc afterwards. Fed up of waiting around really but think its wise to do it. Now i know what its all about i can "advise" others that may have to have some sort of scan:rolleyes::laughing:

Not what I was told here Nonna.  It seems the anaesthetist is a bit concerned about the effect the sedation could have on my heart, as well as the general strain on my already less than perfect heart caused by the op.  He likened the op to 'running at  12 m p h for 15 minutes on a treadmill.'

Even if my knees were OK there's no way I could do that now and I told him so. But I also told him I could walk all day but for the knees.

Anyway they've now booked me a phone coonsult with the Surgeon the day after the 'Echo'.

And I'm still prepared to go through the op with the regional anaesthetic, plenty of valium and loud music through headhones.., but no Propofol.. if I absolutely must..

DJ medics do differ I agree but as ever you take the advice of whoever is treating you. I for one am glad I took advice. Ive always been terrified of hospitals and hate to go to the Dr but almost 20 yrs ago that changed my life for the better.

The continuing saga of the ever receding knee replacements.

Getting pissed off now...

In the last month or so I've had a knee-op pre-op.

Then a call asking if I'd like to go on another surgeon's list to 'speed things up'. I agreed.

Next a very pleasant phone consult with the new surgeon.

Then another pre op, involving a conversation with an anaesthetist who referred me for an Echocardiogram and scared the s**t out of me with his 'risk assessment'.

Then an appointment for an echocardiogram. Last Sunday....20th. The Technician told me she would be sending the results direct to  my surgeon.

Then a scheduled phone consult the next day with the original surgeon, who turned out to be completely unaware of the previous day's 'Echo' and asked me what I had learned from it!. Next he seemed happy to go ahead with my first op in the next 'couple of weeks' and seemed unconcerned about my cardio history.

Today..a letter from the Cardiologist confirming appointment for a phone consult on 30th March! Six sodding weeks hence.!!

I strongly suspect that there are a lot of crossed wires in play, but the first thing I did when originally referred was to personally email copies of all my previous Cardio history to Wrightington, so they have no excuses.

I shall be calling the team's Secretary tomorrow..as she seems to be the only one who is aware of which way is up.

As for the knee debacle and after spending the entire morning trying unsuccessfully, to phone  everyone I could think of connected to my proposed surgery.. (Surgeon's Sec., Cardiologists, Sonographers, Pre-Op Clinic, etc, etc, and even spending a few minutes on the 'Main Switch' in queue position 18...) ..I gave up as literally nobody was answering their phones.

...I finally called the 'Patient Relations/PALS' Manager at the hospital.....

-First, she answered her phone.
-Second, she listened to my concerns and confirmed her understanding of my situation.
-Third, she undertook to look into it and get back to me by 12:00 noon tomorrow.

It's not bloody hard is it?

Sorry Col that you’ve had such a frustrating time trying to get through to various hospital departments.  Hope you’ll get the promised response tomorrow.

After having done 2 (stressful) weeks of mock exam invigilating dishing out tissues to a few snotty sneezing pupils I can now confirm that I do not have covid (after a couple of very uncomfortable negatives) just their flipping cold! Just hope they are all recovered before we start again in May for the proper exams.

Me? I am going to curl up on the settee, feel sorry for myself and eat chocolate:sickly:

So got up this morning feeling like one of the walking dead. Did another test just to be sure it was a cold, it is. We have taken Jj out for a good long walk, taking a copious supply of hankies along with his ball, poo bags etc.
Now ensconced on the settee, gas fire on, with my hankies, Vaseline for my nose, a  library book and blanket for a quiet afternoon whilst Jj has a sleep.

I had dark chocolate with almonds last nite and watched a Stephen King film, tonight it is fruit and nut and will listen to one of my podcasts. Hopefully by tomorrow I will be back in the land of the living.
Wonder if this is how man flu feels?

Feeling really fed up with hospital cancelations and changes to my scheduled April 27th operation. I can't write how many changes that keep occurring, due to staff going off with Corona virus the day before my appointments, or more tests required.

The last one being a stress ECG yesterday.

Tuesday, I finally got called for my virus swab test. Great, all went well.

Phone call Wed morning to say my stress ECG for Friday was cancelled, due to staff going down with covid. also through the post a letter stating my Surgeon has booked a bed for me for a stay after my op because of my already 'Dicky Ticker'. I don't know what is happening now?

I'm a very confused patient in waiting.:faint:

You are right carni - it is confusing!  Covid is obviously still causing problems with staff absences.  I hope a phone call from you will be able to sort it out.  Thinking of you x

Our new cases are rising although some restrictions have been lifted. Have you and us lifted restrictions too soon. I know we have to live with it like we have in the last 2 yrs but how much longer?

I’m afraid this particular virus will be around for ever nonna.  Most people I know have had it - some, more than once, presumably with a different variant each time.  But none of them have had to be hospitalised.
I think we just have to act responsibly and TRY not mix with people if we have symptoms of ANY virus - who knows…
