Evening all!

First off, sorry I missed Loppy's news.

Hope your recovery is continuing Loppy.

As for me, part of the reason I've not been on much lately is because my new knee joint really doesn't  like the PC chair and typing on my phone is a PITA.

Knee is mostly much stronger and I can push upstairs with it now, but plagued by a clicking tendon on outside which gets sore if I do too much. Also struggling to keep the swelling down.

That said, I've already had an initial 'pre-op' for the second knee replacement and have another booked in a week or so . I do want it done ASAP, but I'd like the first one to be a bit better recovered first!!! To be fair I think the surgeons want to get me past the cardiologists while their last assessment is still valid.

Meanwhile, I had to miss my last physio appt . as Mrs Col and I were both flattened by some sort of bug, which didn't show up as Covid but saw us both on antibiotics for a week with chest infections.. I'm left rather wheezy and with a frothy cough, which I hope goes soon or the heart failure lot will probably use it as leverage to get me onto more drugs. 

Still ..progress.

Thanks BK - I don't push too hard - keep an eye on the HRM and learnt to read my body after decades of training. Recovery is the main factor - especially as we get older.

 

Mrs PP is at the local art class as I type. Can't get her interested in any outside stuff though. I would have a go if I was not as busy.

Thanks.  Improved my bark,  but my Bach is not in this organist's class.  Did you notice he had no sheet music on the music desk?  Played it perfectly from memory.  Fine instrument too.

Got a clean bill of health from the doc this morning.  Actually played the organ this afternoon.  Not in this guys league though.

    Yes, I had noticed the lack of sheet music and was impressed with his performance on such a fine instrument.

Today I am feeling better, Friday evening a week ago I was at the kitchen sink taking my night time medication as I tried to swallow it ,with water as I am a wimp, suddenly it felt like I was hit in the chest with a sledge hammer and then I could not breathe. I struggled to try and breathe whilst holding my chest the pain was horrendous, I was slowly slipping down to the floor and I managed to indicate to my wife for a chair, which she placed under me before I reached the floor, thinking at the time well this is where it all ends. Did I have clean under wear on, remembering what my mother use to say lol.

The next thing  I remember was being placed on a trolley and my upper clothing taken off  by the Ambulance crew, then sensors stuck all over my upper torso also cables, needles were also liberally stuck in me. Then a ride to Hospital.  At the hospital the pain subsided but still more needles and Doctors asked so many questions and kept jabbing me with fingers.

I was finally discharged some 8 hrs later, they stated that the problem was a  massive rush of  gastric fluid and it affected the organs in my chest and I am now waiting for a camera to be put down my throat. I am fed up with Hospitals I have had more than my share of visits.

 

PS Just for Jill the one thing on the positive side of this event my wife has found my insurance policy , even before I arrived home.

The fact that you are posting here is a good sign, and I'm sure you'll still be posting here for a long time to come.

Ey up, young Trogg , don't you be getting the idea that you can slope off for a good time at Chullaspoons with the saffron-robed cherub. Anyway, who needs an insurance policy when they can have you?

 

So, behave yourself and let's have no more of these shenanigans .  Even if you go off to Chullaspoons, he'll only have you washing the dirty glasses and sweeping the floor. You can do all that at home!

@trogg It must have been scary for you and your wife when you collapsed with the pain.  Pleased you are OK now.  Hope it wasn’t anything you ate at the Beefeater that caused it!  X

Paul has been feeling poorly for a few days - flu like symptoms - so he did a Covid test on Saturday morning which was negative.  He continued to feel grotty so did another test on Sunday afternoon and it was strongly positive. 

I’m feeling fine. but just in case I do get it, I’ve been doing lots of housework today and got the laundry up to date.  He is feeling a bit better today so that’s good.  The beautiful sunny weather is getting all the washing dry as well, so life’s good…

Hope you dont get it @Margie........glad Paul feeling better.......Donna started new job on our doorstep...so no traveling when the bad weather comes........mind you she's got a bit behind with the 'Ironing' (me shirts)...so if you can nip up to ours and sort em out would be nice........

My oldest cousin who's eighty in a few days' time caught Covid recently, although fully jabbed. He's been quite poorly but is recovering now. His wife also caught it. Just goes to show that it hasn't gone anywhere and we should still be wary.

Unfortunately Jill it’s still rearing it’s ugly head. My sil is continuing her radiotherapy again after having covid that stopped her treatment for almost 2 weeks and she only has a few more to go. She was elated this morning because she was going to continue . We are waiting for our 4th dose but we were told to wait it was too early. ( probably for over 80s which won’t be long.

We’ve had our 5 Covid jabs also this season’s flu jab.  I feel sure that Paul would have been a lot worse if we hadn’t had them..  strangely I’ve got more energy than normal at the moment but you’ll have to iron your own shirts,  Ben - I hate ironing …

MargieH. That is a typical women response to knowing you’re possibly “out of action” for a while, doing all the housework jobs just in case. My job when I know that is usually sorting out the freezer and making sure there’s enough food in there.

I have, since being diagnosed with my overactive thyroid, been under the care of the thyroid clinic at QMC for my medication. During that time they have tried to get me off the medication as I am classed as “borderline” and am on the lowest dose available, (don’t understand the borderline would have thought you either have it or not but who am I to argue with the professionals). This involved trying to cut down the tablets going from 1 a day to 1 every other day etc. Every time they have tried this it has sent readings haywire so had to go back to 1 a day to stabilise them and then they would try again with the same result.

At the same time they were trying to persuade me to have the radioactive treatment, which I had been advised not to have, and didn’t want anyway. Seems a bit like a hammer to crack a nut and I know someone who has had it and has now become underactive. They did mention it every time I had a telephone appointment, became a bit tedious to be honest. 
I had a telephone appointment yesterday and they have finally decided that it is best for me to stay on the tablets (could have told them that a year ago) 

asked if I had changed mind about the radioactive treatment (hadn’t) so I am being discharged back to my doctor. 
Pleased about it in one way, hopefully no more messing about with medication making me ill again, but it is extremely hard to get an appointment with a doctor either on the same day (almost impossible) or in the future (very often ring and are told there aren’t any until a new batch are released in a few days). Keeping my fingers crossed there might be a thyroid nurse like the diabetic nurse which would a bit easier. 
Frying pan and fire comes to mind.

I am hypothyroid and don't want to dishearten you but no one at my surgery seems to know anything about thyroids, how they work or don't work. Even the GP s. Tell them you've researched it on the internet and they become extremely resentful and often slightly aggressive.  I just go my own sweet way now and have a blood test once a year but I don't take any notice of what the medics say.
