Doesn't seem to be on other specialist forums

Of the other specialist sites where I'm a member, I find there is plenty of banter without doubt.

Forums are no different to society at large, ultimately they will evolve to where the membership wants to take them.

Having read the posts from Fynger I'll just state that if Nottstalgia was an info Site only I wouldn't be logging in every day. In fact, I'd rarely log in at all. The previous posts have mostly agreed

While I largely agree with you. There is only so much Nottingham talk you can do. In my case based on a 25 year history. I can only say so much about Netherfield, Carlton, and Gedling along with my

Its great that future generations will learn much about the Nottingham of our day, I had'nt realised that from its inception thats all it was about, its obviously developed into what it is today by the

Yes, I'm on a couple of specialist forums. Two music related and another one doggy related. Various amounts of banter on them as well as some pretty serious interaction on the topics.

Somehow I think us Nottinghamians have a very unique form of interaction and one that should be preserved for posterity. Haven't seen anything better. There is a lot of good natured folks here. Over the years I've seen some downright nasty sites and I mean sites for oldtimers to reminisce. Needless to say I don't go back.

Nottstalgia is a fantastic site and banter is part of it. Facebook gets a bit stupid when people put pictures of their breakfast or ask what colour socks they are wearing, I hope we don't get like that.

Although the vast majority of people on this site have never met, many of us feel like old friends due to a bit of banter and innocent humour. We don't all want to solely discuss mining techniques, fishing, Fothergills architecture, Balloon Woods flats or the original route of the blooming ring road. We mostly like a good variety of topics.

As I've stated previously several times, the topics that don't interest me I don't read.

As for diversions within topic, well that's inevitable. One gets that in normal conversation.

I'll be the first to admit that there has been some superficial and superfluous twaddle on here recently, but that is far outweighed by the intelligent and informative subjects.

Just my personal view.

You don't give up do you Kev, if there were no games and banter on here, you'd get about half the members ignoring this wonderful site.

That would indeed be a great shame because many people get a vast amount of pleasure from partaking in innocent banter.

You must admit it Kev, even you have had a reserved chuckle at some of the content over the years.

If prospective new members read this thread, they'll definitely give it a wide berth.

With all due rspect Kev I noticed you posted on have you enjoyd owt on the box lately. This is hardly Nottingham related and you may have none Nottingham stuff in other threads. I don't keep track.

Edited to add. I hit post before I finished. lol.

Our very nature as human beings is to wander around on topics. I was a member of a cycling club but we didn't always talk about cycling. :-)

Re: the original topic -

Someone invented the transistor, I should know who but I don`t. No moving parts,

just three connections, get a million in the volume of a paracetamol. Most items

already mentioned by others on this thread depend on transistors. Life changing for

every one of us and life saving for many.

Fynger has a point. If a future researcher is faced with a mountain of waffle, with

say 4% useful information diffused among it, he`ll go elsewhere. I note that one

contributor`s post count went up by 3,000 in just a few weeks.
