TBI 2,351
Welcome Joyaa, that appears to be Jurys Alley. Not sure of it's precise location, not all alleys around Woolpack Lane area are marked on maps.

In any case, neither Jurys not Twyg come up in any searches. (The Jurys Inn chain started in Belfast in 1997, so no clues from that name!). I was hoping that someone here would have an old map or list of Alley names that would give this one away). Does "Fountain Place" mean anything to the Nottstalgians amongst you? .... PS - here a screenshot containing some writing in the same hand: 'Joseph'. So I'm afraid that the first letter of the street name isn't a 'J'. Thnx.
Joyaa 0
Folks: Problem part solved. I have located references to a "Twig Alley, Woolpack Lane". The first is in "The stranger's guide through the town of Nottingham", written in 1827. The second is in a transcription of another book: "The history of Nottingham, embracing its antiquities, trade, and manufactures, from the earliest authentic records, to the present period", written in 1815. 1. https://books.google.com.au/books?id=-4MHAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA106&lpg=PA106&dq="twig+alley"+nottingham&source=bl&ots=oXh4Z134Uh&sig=ACfU3U3Om6rujYlvCMCjiiQ7UVHoKCGi2g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwizhoTV0ZzgAhVOIbkGHZvBByQQ6AEwBXoECAUQAQ#v=onepage&q="twig alley" nottingham&f=false. 2. https://archive.org/stream/historyofnotting00blac/historyofnotting00blac_djvu.txt -- just search for the word "twig", and it's the first hit. Question: Does anyone know of any detailed maps from this period that might tell us exactly which alley is/was Twig Alley? A Silversmith (William Lin[?d]ley), Shoemaker (Charles Eyre) and Grocer (Robert Orme) lived and/or worked in the alley in 1841. (My interest is in Robert Orme). Thanks v. much in advance for any help.
DAVIDW 1,674
Doesn't help but the only alleys mentioned in the old news archives for Woolpack Lane are Angel Alley , Wing Alley and Wool Alley .

The other names on the same page are Woolpack Lane and Fountain Place. 1 hour ago, Joyaa said: Problem part solved. I have located references to a "Twig Alley, Woolpack Lane". I have another reference for Twig Alley which describes it as being on Goose Gate. Looking on present day maps, you'll see a number of alleys which go through from Goose Gate to Woolpack Lane (such as Wing Walk and Angel Alley). Twig Alley no longer exists, but it seems to have been another in that series, long since built over.
