Just for your interest Ian and probably before your time,there was an old friend of my Dads think his name was Joe Page an ex Railway man,lived on Teviot.

Anyway he was a great big bloke and was a 'Bookies Runner' for Nellie Bisby's shop on Arnold road,who was the unofficial bookie,and big Joe was a well known figure cycling all over Bestwood estate collecting Bets,..........most of which i would imagine were a Tanner EW.

My bookie in the 80's was Tote or Stanley on Arnold rd.bottom of Gainsford.

If I got a winner it went in The Heathfield. Will ask about Joe Benjamin, he probably was a well known character... I do remember Ted Parsons and the Parson family.

Bet you knew my Dad ian,........in the 80s his regular routine was Coop Arnold road then the Bookies next door.......along with Lennie Fisher and Kenny Gray Snr, and Pete Warsop...........
