!rulez! Tried to play a CD today useing the Samsung CD/RW SW-224B installed in me tower, nothing happened so i checked out the device and it said it couldn't start, gave no reason why but the draw works and the tiny green light on the front panel flickers.

So what do i do?

Is it worth it taking it out and dismantalling it or should i just go out and buy another?

Do you recommend a brand apart from Samsung? :yahoo:

My Daddy used to be a singer and my Mom has an album he made on 78! He sounded just like Sinatra, but I guess he just didn't know the right people. There were many guys back then that sounded like Sinatra though!! I had never even heard of 78's until she showed me that! :Fool:

I have no idea! I have a really bad recording of it on a cassette tape. It was only a demo, so it wasn't a very good recording to start, very scratchy. thumbsdown

Cali, if you can get the origonal 78, it can be recorded and digitally cleaned up to remove scratches, clicks and whatever, then digitally audio enhanced, then it will sound better than the day it was recorded. I have software that does that sort of thing.

You should find someone who specialises in that if you look in the yellow pages.

Probably cost you around $100 for a reasonable "clean up" depending on how much work the technician has to put in.

BUT, I'd say it would be worth having done on sentimental grounds.

Thanks for that Ayup, I'll let my mom know as she is the one who has the original 78. It would be nice to hear him sing CLEARLY! He never sung for my sister and I in person, he was too embarassed, but he was singing with a trio in a club in Los Angeles when my mom met him. It's always the singer that gets the girl!! ;)

You can sample it yourself, if you have a sound input on your computer and a record deck?

Then it can be emailed to someone who can clean it up

A magnetic or ceramic cartridge doesn't have the drive to drive the sound card on a computer Mick, too small an output voltage. It requires a preamp between the player deck and the sound card, thats whats holding me up with my project, I have plenty of audio equipment but no friggin preamp!! Arrhhggg.

I'm going to have a play with an old computer speaker amp, might have to place a "swamping resistor across the output so as I don't overdrive the computers soundcard though..

Failing that, looks like I may have to build a couple of preamps... Boy don't we get lazy as we get older??
