barclaycon 569
Re #2 He should never have got one in the first place. A most unpleasant man. Makes a mockery of the system when someone gets a knighthood for being a complete and utter bastard.
Bubblewrap 3,815
They should start "selling" stuff cheap soon
ChrisB 150
To be honest Bubblewrap, even if they do start selling their stuff off cheap, I don't think there's anything I'd want, none of it is very appealing. And, of course, this will mean yet another empty space in the lovely Broadmarsh Centre!
DJBrenton 738
So when did anyone here last buy anything from BHS?
Guest
Not the window to watch then??
Cliff Ton 10,466
I wonder how many people knew there was still a BHS in Nottingham, or where it was. Unless you actually go into Broad Marsh Centre, this is the only view of the store. A great shop window.
MapperleyMan 122
#12 I used to go in that BHS with my gran. She died in 1985 and I've never been in any BHS anywhere since. Perhaps this is why its closing down.
DJBrenton 738
I don't think it was entirely your fault MapperleyMan.
catfan 14,793
It just shows what the real state of this country is in. So much for this great, fantastic EU we're in.
DJBrenton 738
Oh dear. that's a bit of a stretch. BHS had an outdated business model and range that relied on High St presence when so much business has moved elsewhere. Sad and desperate trying to blame the EU frankly. It's nothing to do with the 'state of the country' that so many of us didn't shop there. Primark, H & M, Next, John Lewis, all doing well. BHS just didn't fill a niche any more just as Woolworth didn't. Additionally, one of the reasons BHS couldn't find an investor is because they are all waiting for the referendum in case the vote goes to Brexit. Lots of investors will look elsewhere if that happens.
Rob.L 1,090
We went into BHS Broadmarsh only yesterday. Plenty of 20% off signs, but absolutely nothing worth buying. Even Primark offers better quality products - at a quarter of the price.
DJBrenton 738
Which must be because of the state of this country and the EU. It's politicians forcing BHS to try and sell rubbish.
radfordred 6,284
Funny how British Home Stores is referred to as BHS by the media, when they normally fawn at the chance to mention the word British?
DAVIDW 1,683
Our neice works part time in town in BHS in one of the concessions . Could be Wallace . I'm not even sure if she knows about the liquidation as she's on holiday at her dads place in Spain . Might be a shock when she gets back as that was the main income for the family . barclaycon 569
I've just been watching the Select Commitee on TV questioning directors of the Arcadia group - you know that company owned by Tina Green (!) You would think from their answers that they were all philanthropists who were 'desperate to sort out the pension difficulties after the BHS sale'. Instead of asset-stripping 'suits' who didn't invest a penny into the company when they bought it and ran it into the ground before off-loading to some pratt who couldn't run a tap. DJBrenton 738
#20, hopefully some of the concession workers can be found places in their parent stores or other concessions.
