Seems to have been so-named because it was originally the grounds of Vernon House which disappeared around 1900, and was sited approximately where Waterford Street is now.

If you were arriving in your carriage, you went in at Vernon Road, round the right-hand side of the pond, to the house at the top.

Don't forget Basford "Vernon" station is just of the map.(Nottingham Road)

Hello Everyone!

I recently found this forum when researching the history of Nottingham Parks for a local charity who are holding events across popular parks in Nottingham. Part of the event will include an exhibition on the first public parks in England and a time line of their use. I am interested in gathering some historical photographs of any parks in the UK but would love some historical images of Nottingham parks or Kensington Gardens. If you have any photographs that you own the full rights to display and are willing to share them and allow us display them at the events that would be such an asset to the exhibition. Please get in touch!
