Each house had a big framed photograph of them over the house name in the hall. I have often wondered what became of those photos when the school closed. mercurydancer 1,104
Indeed Mundella had houses named after stately homes. I was Hardwick and yellow. There was a definite movement within Mundella in the 70s to make it more almost socialist. I have never been competitive, which is a good thing for those in the caring professions, but the abandoning the principle of Houses left a void of "Well, with what do I identify with?" Jill Sparrow 10,267
I had the choice of attending Mundella when I passed the 11 plus but it was too far from my home. Several of my peers from primary school went there. Although we had houses at Manning, many of us felt it fell into two camps really: us, the pupils and them, the teaching staff. Sometimes people ask whether there was any bullying. There wasn't, except by the staff. That may simply be my perception but I've met many females who attended Manning before I did and it seems to be a perception we all share.
mercurydancer 1,104
Jill I never had any bullying from any teacher at Mundella. Some odd political philosophy for sure, but no bullying. The teachers had good control over the pupils too. I recall some bullying from pupils but it was sorted out. Rapidly and effectively. I maintain it was a delightful school to grow up in. woody 549
If I remember right ,Phil, the houses at Mellish were McEwan, Barber, Bulkely and Baulk. The usual colours applied to ties and rugby shirt bands, McEwan was red, Barber was green, Bulkely was blue and Baulk was yellow. Of course if you went into the sixth form the ties changed again to denote senior students.
