My fascination began when I was very young. My dad was in hospital and made friends with a family who lived at Burton Joyce. On our numerous visits to them, the bus went all the way along Carlton Road and the sight of Bluebell Hill Tunnel fired my imagination. I was not happy until I was old enough to go out there and walk the line.

Interestingly. My wife's friend lives near Porchester Road. Not long ago she was awaiting the bus into town and got talking with a young lass. She told my wife's friend that she had moved from London and now lives in one of the new houses. She mentioned that she was sometimes kept awake by the sound of trains shunting. My wife's friend told her about the Lincoln Line passing close to Sneinton. The woman said that the noise was much closer than that. She obviously had no knowledge of the old railway buried under her house. I thought it very interesting.

Yes, I saw the little engine about 5 years ago.  Is it still there I wonder or has it been vandalised.  I'll have to have a look next time we're in Nottingham.

Yes it is, it's recently had a paint job.

Thanks for that picture, Zab.  Was it repainted because it'd been vandalised or just to smarten it up?
