Too much food and drink

Recommended Posts

I thought the title referred to portions being too large, which they are nowadays. Just because there is a lot of food on your plate in a restaurant, doesn't mean you have to eat it in one sitting. Where we live us surrounded by over-55 communities. Folks don't eat so much the older they get, so the restaurants don't bat an eye when you say you'll share a meal with another in your party. They'll bring an extra plate, or even split it before bringing it out. I very often only eat half my dinner and bring the rest home for lunch the next day. We very rarely have dessert, maybe if it's someone's birthday, then we order 1 dessert and 4 forks. Portion control goes a long way, especially now that middle age spread is there!

When I started the thread I was referring to the number of eating and drinking places in Nottingham which are closing down. There are simply too many to cater for the number of customers available. Regardless of rates or costs or anything else, places are closing because there just aren't enough people to put bums on all the seats.

It's not the prices that bother me. It's the menu I look at. I like something other than the run of the mill paninis, jacket spuds and toasties.

Smoked salmon for starters, or Mediterranean type mixed salads. Lovely.

Fly those places that serve smoked salmon etc are called restaurants, the others are called fast food, street food and fill a gap food which go under the title of snack shops. LOL they all serve a purpose and depends on what you are hungry for.  But too many spoil it for all.

In the village where we live there are 11 so called restaurants. My son has one and there is another restaurant right opposite who specialise in weddings and large groups. My daughter has another one which is near to 2 bars that also are classed as restaurants. A pizzeria and others just outside the village who are also B& Bs. In the centre we have 5 bars within less than 5 seconds of each other. They all seem to work well.

But in my opinion a bar is a bar not a restaurant and should stay exactly that but the law changes here as often as changing socks!!

But italians are very sociabile so bars will never go out of fashion.

My wife and I love our coffee shops, as we are both "people watchers" love to sit and while away an hour doing this.

I like Costas in the UK too, as they always seem to have free wifi and the coffees pretty good too.

#27    As for big food portions etc. we nearly always share a meal at lunchtime, it's the norm here for the oldies I think, as most cafes ask when ordering one meal if an extra plate and cutlery is required.

Yes, there's nothing like a coffee shop to sit and people watch. I could do it for hours, but I'd end up eating too much cake.

NonnaB, when I mentioned smoked salmon for starters, I didn't mean 'starters' as in before the main meal. Some coffee shops do light snacks which are extremely enjoyable such as smoked salmon on scrambled eggs.

Sussed out a new coffee shop at Colliers Nurseries at Draycott this morning. Bacon & egg on a beautiful granary cob, and the Americano's were delicious. I had two large ones. Well worth a visit !

When the total range of ones eating habits revolves around Greggs, KFC, McDonalds (ugh), cheesy chip cobs, kebabs (ugh) takeaways etc, then there's no wonder half the population is overly obese.

These new apps where you can order your stodge on your mobile, and get it delivered, means you only have to get off your ar5e to answer the bleddy door.

FLY2

You only have to look at people who spend a lot of time sitting in McDonalds, pale faced, chubby,no energy, not exactly a good look.

Never been to KFC,the smell wafting out of the place turns my guts.

I OCCASIONALLY succumb to the grandkids wishes, and share a KFC  'Family Bucket ' plus extras, and although tasty, it tends to leave me stodged and somewhat constipated the following day.

So, there you have it ! Junk food scoffers are full of 5hit !

I see Stonebaked Pizza Co shut up shop after only 8 months joining Joe's Kitchen & Coast to Coast quiting the newly refurbished Vicky Center wonder how long that new champagne bar up near the Emmit water clock will stick it out?

They've saturated the area with food outlets. Trinity Sq is becoming the same. There's only so much money to circulate !
