BilboroughShirley 1,120
A nice photo of Sneinton Dale on the link. The houses on the left were converted to flats. After WW2 my parents lived in one of the flats at number 53. In my paperwork archive I have their radio licence!

DaveN 1,118
#2 sue B 48, there's a book called "Nottinghamshire Place Names" by Anthony Poulton-Smith, published by the History Press you might find interesting.
FLY2 10,108
I'll look out for that book Dave. I've always found the origins of local place names fascinating, be they Roman, Viking, Norman, or from just plain local derivations. One thing I'd like to see, is a map depicting the local boundaries. Such as where does Arnold change to Daybrook. Basford to Bulwell, Carlton to Gedling, Beeston to Chilwell. Maybe one of our map experts can assist?
