Guy Martin and crew had a hard enough time with the replica. Imagine the originals with an impossible terrain, that would test a chieftan, and people trying to kill you with artillery. As for the three-wheeler, I'm impressed, It would intimidate me to be so close to the ground. A lady I worked with had a Dutch work trike, now that was more to my liking, just like a giant Triang! When we visited they had a display of toys including a farm set with the animals, fences and hedges made of metal. I believe it was lead. I had a set like that! Memories! Returning to the thread, the new series of Peaky Blinders started with lots of action. Love it! Wednesday should be a good evening on the box this week with Mary Berry cooking at Highclare Castle at 8.00 pm then Peaky Blinders at 9.00pm. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The building used as the Wilcox`s New apartment in London is Queen Alexandra`s House now in use as student hostel accommodation. My daughter lived there for a couple of years in the early 90`s when she was studying at the Royal College of Music. The building is used regularly by film and TV when an Edwardian location is required. They specialise in showing films from the late 40s, 50s, and 60s, British and American. They also show a lot of short features. Most of the UK films show street scenes which Nottstalgians will remember, and interiors which are like your house when you were a kid. As well as the Billy Fury film today, a few days ago they showed this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonks_Go_Beat which I'd heard about but never seen. The episode had a story line based around Christmas 1962 with the big snow and frees that started on Boxing Day. I remember it well in Nottingham! Great winter. The story line had detail of food shortages and milk delivery problems. I do not remember this happening in Nottingham. They must have put this in for the story line so the Cubs could come to the rescue and collect milk bottles buried in snow!! The Dr Who Christmas special was disappointing. I fell asleep! It was good wine with lunch. For me the best bit of Christmas TV was Songs of Praise on Christmas Eve. Our son was in one of the featured choirs in front of the organ at the Royal Albert Hall. A bit under the weather today so I dug into my little recorded 'stash' of films and thought I'd have a look at 'Live It Up'.. one of those cheap tacky pop films from the early 1960s. Many of these are so bad they are good and this was a corker!! The best musical piece in it by a country mile was Aussie Patsy Ann Noble singing and dancing rather well to 'Accidents Can Happen'. ( I've posted it before in the music thread..) All a bit 'twee' though. It, and the rest of the music featured was already 3-5 years out of date when the film was released in 1964. Tacky ballads and poor relations of The Shadows doing inconsequential guitar tunes. Also, Kenny Ball doing his usual 'over syncopated' facsimile of jazz. There was a mention of the Beatles but nothing even approaching the 'Beat' or 'Merseybeat' stuff which was taking the World by storm in 1964. Even more amazing for me, in a typical "Why Don't We Do The Show Right Here?" type plot.. was that the lead was a young David Hemmings on guitar, with Heinz Burt on lead vocal, some other bloke on bass and a very young looking 'Stephen Marriot' on drums. This must have been little more than a year before 'Stevie' Marriot and the rest of the Small Faces took the UK charts by storm with a slew of cracking tunes. Also featured as Hemmings' 'Love interest'.. was the late Jennifer Moss, who also played 'Lizzie Hewitt' in 'Corrie'. http://coronationstreet.wikia.com/wiki/Jennifer_Moss Funny old world.
