I always liked John Noakes when he was a Blue Peter presenter. Much preferred him to the rather snooty Peter Purvis who always looked as though it was beneath his dignity to be there. Christopher Trace was the male presenter when I first started watching Blue Peter and I liked him too: good looking and very suave! My father was quite fond of Valerie Singleton, as many dads were, I believe!

The episode with the baby elephant and how Noakes dealt with it was a classic and he will forever be associated with that lovely collie dog, Shep. The two of them can now ramble about to their heart's content.

I'd read somewhere that John Noakes had been afflicted by dementia in his latter years which was sad. He brought a great deal of laughter and enjoyment to many, young and old alike. Well done, Noakes!
