catfan 14,793
I wouldn't say $300 is a small fee Michael.
catfan 14,793
Another modern day downfall is the growing use of mass pop-ups on some websites, the NEP is one of the worse ones, PB also went this way & sometimes their site was virtually unusable, Don't forget that this is done for a reason, to generate income ! The latest escapade by PB is no more than corporate greed. 1
loppylugs 8,427
77. Yes, I'd just about given up on PB anyway. My ad blocker shows me loads of parasite sites trying to latch on to me every time I logged on. I was looking for another way to share photos anyway. I don't put a lot up because most of them have little or nothing to do with Nottingham and you can only take so many dog photos. I've just got to rethink my way of doing things. Seems like Dave (Chulla) only uploads the photos he wants to share. I was trying to make it a storage place as I had done with PB. I have been reluctant to close my PB acct as so far my photos are still linked to NS at least, they were yesterday. Haven't checked today. If they cut the links to NS I'll close it in an instant.

Ayupmeducks 1,730
I deleted my account, it said the account will be deleted by the 7/7/2017, but is still active!! I'm deleting the photos on the account, I want no more to do with them.
loppylugs 8,427
My PB account is still active. Photos still linked. I guess I'll leave it active until they cut the cord. I don't want to cause more problems for Cliff and co. Than they already have with this issue.
loppylugs 8,427
Logged on to my laptop tonight to find an e-mail from Photobucket. Here is a chunk of it. WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING* PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN. Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level. UPGRADE NOW *What is 3rd Party Hosting? Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting. Why Photobucket? Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly. Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use) Are my pictures still safe? Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites. A' thought right monkey!!! Checked in at NS and my photos are still linked as of right now, but I think I am on notice that they won't be much longer. I guess I'll hang on 'til the bitter end, but then they can kiss my rear goodbye.
Chulla 4,946
I was just thinking. I wonder if PB will close the accounts of us who still have images with them because we haven't used the service for a period of time. If this is the case then maybe it would be wise to post a new image on it every six months or whenever.
loppylugs 8,427
Won't bother me, Dave. The day they chop my images from NS I am closing my account. They tell me they are noticing my account. Well I am noticing them! I don't need 'em that badly.
loppylugs 8,427
Still connected as of this morning but I notice that more and more members photos are missing now so I guess they'll get around to me.
Chulla 4,946
#84 Loppy et al. I have got that message on my Chrome laptop this morning. However, I did not get it in my PC inbox - Outlook Express. A check on photos posted of NS meetings shows them all to be there ─ and checking my PB library shows that all 303 are still there. loppylugs 8,427
The way I read it, Dave. Your account will still be free and your pictures will still be there. Just no more linking to outside websites. The thing with me, and probably most other members here is that I don't like the way they have done this so I shall first delete my pictures and then close the account. No point doing business with 'em anymore.
carni 10,094
#84 LL, I have this morning received the same message in my E-Mails. I know I will never use PB again, because I am disgusted at the way they have conducted the change. They have caused so much damage to peoples businesses etc across the world with their thoughtlessness and rendered so many posts on forums like NS pointless without the pictures accompanying them. Once I am certain that I have saved all my personal pics to my memory stick, I will close the PB account.
Chulla 4,946
I wouldn't be too quick to close PB accounts, especially if this means that all images will be deleted. If this happens then they will disappear from the threads. As I have reported, it seems that personal jpeg images (not images from a third party) seem to be safe. If this really is the case then leave them there but don't add to them. As I said, the PB message came into my Chrome laptop inbox but it did not go to my desktop PC with Windows (every message received always goes into both). I think, therefore, that the problem so far as NS is concerned is that most members are using laptops and tablets.
carni 10,094
OK, I am not doing anything hastey. I will watch and learn, even though i feel anti towards PB, I don't want to cause anymore damage to what has already been done to NS.

I use a desktop PC, and as is evident all my Photobucket photos have disappeared from Nottstalgia anyway even though I haven't closed my account with them,so I don't think doing so would make any difference to what's already happened. But as you say, may as well leave the photos on Photobucket as a sort of backup. I backup all my photos onto a USB stick every night and also into 'the cloud' (with BT) but it's always useful to have an extra one. But also as you suggest, I won't be adding to them on Photobucket as the only reason I did so was for them to appear on here.
notty ash 370
Mine seem to be unaffected so far, so definitely leaving as is. I just won't use them for new images - signed up to two other sites to spread the risk.
loppylugs 8,427
As long as they leave my photos alone on NS I will leave my account open. Like Carnie, I don't want to cause more problems for NS. If they cut those links, though. I will definitely close my account. It is not much fun navigating their slow adware laden site anyway. Chulla 4,946
In my Chrome laptop email inbox this morning is an ad from Photobucket PB Deals. It says, quote: Photobucket is excited to bring you PB Deals, a website that offers unique, hand-selected products amazing prices [in dollars] that we are sure you will love. It's just another way for us to show our appreciation for your continued support of Photobucket. unquote, What is this telling me, that I am free of their threat to delete my images? And what is 'continued support' when I haven't used them for some weeks now. Shouldn't people like me who have not had any images removed (yet) thank them for their continued support. Jill Sparrow 10,304
#96 Speaking of dollars, Chulla, if you've got any 50$ or 100$ bills, you need to send em to your sister. She says her wallet is a bit thin!
nonnaB 4,894
I have all my photos on pc or ipad. Every now and again I d/l onto dvd. To me it seems a secure way of saving photos. I used PB only to upload to NS. But I'm going to check to see if some of the photos on PB correspond with photos saved on other devices. ( maybe deleted accidently on those devices) If you understand what I mean.
catfan 14,793
Be careful nonnaB, I wouldn't trust DVD or any disc over a period of time. Cloud based storage is much safer.
catfan 14,793
Who's going to trust PB again ? Sign up & pay now & then forever be held to ransom when they decide to jack up their prices again ? I don't think so.
