Jill Sparrow 10,306
I'll bet there's cream oozing from Carni's mouth which is full of choux pastry and chocolate! It was on the news this morning that the entire stock of cakes in Birds, West Midlands, had been reserved. Not one in the shops. Cake news...makes a change from fake news... and much much tastier. Pleased it's all over Carni! Tuck in girl.
carni 10,094
Well I didn't have a cake after all. I convinced hubby to bring from Morrisons some Strawberries, Blueberries, Grapes and Raspberries. Just had a delicious bowl of health giving mixed fruit salad.........................................................................and double cream.
katyjay 5,091
Carni, are you sure they didn't sneak your sweet tooth out while you were under? Fresh fruit? Summat's wrong.
carni 10,094
KJ, There's more to this gel than you think. It will take a lot more than a few surgeons and anaesthetists to sneak my sweet tooth out when I'm not looking. Try as they may.
DJ360 6,730
Evening all! I've been a bit distracted with a few issues. Can't go into them here.. You really wouldn't believe it. Carni. Good to hear you survived. Nonna. Good that you are OK. I spent an evening at Mapperley GC last Sat. Very nice place. Margie, sadly, we were taken up Breck Hill Rd so didn't get to wave at your old place, but I did recall cycling down Breck Hill as a lad..That was fun..

LizzieM 9,507
Had a relatively quiet day today, just recovering from the excitement of yesterday. It was my husband’s birthday yesterday, a sort of special one, but I suppose by the time we get to a certain age ALL birthdays are special. However he didn’t want to celebrate it. We decided to go to World Service in town. I booked a table for 6 rather than 2 when he wasn’t within earshot. What he didn’t realise was that our two sons were coming up from Hertfordshire along with our old Hertfordshire neighbours who we haven’t seen for at least 10 years. The boys had phoned him in the morning to wish him a Happy Birthday but he had no idea that they were leaving work early and dashing up to Nottingham for 8pm, having picked up the other two on the way. I kept getting text messages saying they were running late, try to delay arrival at restaurant etc. He was getting annoyed with me because I was (purposely) taking so long to get ready but eventually we got a taxi ordered and we were on our way. We were JUST getting out of the taxi when our son texted to say they had arrived! I spotted the other 4 sitting in the bar area as soon as we walked in but he didn’t. I piped up that we’d like a drink in the bar before we sat down at the table and walked straight over to the additions to our table, even then it took him a few seconds to realise who they were, his reaction was fabulous! We had the best evening in a long time, so much laughter and reminiscing with our old friends. The food and wine was top class too of course. The boys didn’t get home til 2am, a long day for them. 8
nonnaB 4,895
Lovely Lizzie glad he enjoyed it. A similar thing was arranged for my 60th. We had a table booked for just us. Before setting off Alex said something about taking a camera. I said it was silly just for us but took it anyway. When we arrived ( the restaurant is now Deborahs before renovating it) half the restaurant was screened off. My brother in law had also been invited but hes always late so I was a bit peeved that he was nowhere to be seen. Then the screens went back and out poured all the family, greetings here and there and everywhere when the screens went further back and out came my son and his pregnant wife. They'd travelled from Nottingham the day before and stayed at my sister in laws house. I ended up in tears from the emotion of seeing them. 3
nonnaB 4,895
This morning I went for yet another visit to a specialist for my back. Feeling ok and not too concerned when out of the blue on the way taking my daughter to work, pranced a Capriolo, oh how lovely we said together when another one followed, oooohh once again then a third one darted across in front of the car. I've seen odd ones and 2 together but not three. It was a lovely site to see them altogether in single file. It made my day. Sorry I'm not sure what capriolo is in English. I think it's a roe deer just like Bambi. We have a lot round here as there are many wooded areas. They're a bit shy so it's a treat to see them at such close quarters. 1
jonab 1,644
Quite a lot of those things around here - chevreuil in French. Very good to eat.

Looks like you were correct, although the Wikipedia spelling is slightly different to yours https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=caprioara&oq=cap&aqs=chrome.0.35i39j69i57j0j69i61j0l2.1766j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-
Stavertongirl 1,719
Where I lived in Doncaster we used to see the monk jack deer (which I believe escaped from somewhere, they are originally from India I think). They are only a small deer but quite beautiful. We used to see them early in the morning when taking the dogs out.
LizzieM 9,507
The muntjac deer were first introduced to Woburn Abbey Park from China and have spread across the South East. We used to live on the edge of Ashridge Forest in Hertfordshire and these deer were often in our garden eating everything that took their fancy. We planted a large rose bed, probably 3 dozen rose bushes, they ate the lot! We then filled the bed with marigolds the following years and the deer never touched them. We grew lots of vegetables and soft fruit but we had a big wire cage protecting our produce. 1

loppylugs 8,429
It's amazing how these different species can adapt and even become a pest over a few years. I just hope nobody releases Pythons dahn sahth or even around Notts. They (whoever 'they' are) that they cannot stand cold winters. Now 'they' are starting to re think that over here because some are finding a place to survive any cold weather. Scary stuff.

It was amazing to see them hopping across the lawn

West Bridgfordian 144
Ben, the place is the Santon Motel. Still a going concern. The cafe is the Sound Cafe at the southern tip, now very upmarket but worth it for the view. Didn't know Swayze had been there, (but I did see Johny Depp in Douglas).
MargieH 7,600
WB I presume the Manx Wallabies have tails.... Just wondered.... How did Manx cats come to be? I suppose it must have been a strange cat breeder who decided that it was an attractive feature to encourage. I don't suppose the cats feel that way!
benjamin1945 16,159
Went to a Cats sanctuary on the IOM........lovely relaxing couple of hours with all these Cats just chilling out,,,is that still there WB ? Edit........ignore my edit a couple of posts back..........
West Bridgfordian 144
Ben, Mann Cat Sanctuary is still there (near the motel you stayed at) but I've never been in there (more of a dog person). Seen a few photos of the place, quite a few Manx cats seem to be there.
