Martyn, just had a thought, when we were almost at the Immigration building, we stopped to ask directions,  it was in a building just down the road from Immigration, it was a Mexican welfare place, "can you direct me to the US Immigartion building please" The place went deadly quiet, I think all the Mexicans were about to make a dash for it thinking I was from ICE.....LOL

Just before Thanksgiving or 2016 we were visited by ICE and they gave us 48 hours to produce all the I9’s (ID docs) etc on all our guys. They then took about 6 months to review everybody before reporting back, it was a bit scary.

I wouldn't worry too much DJ about the gun toting, knife carrying druggies in Mexico, I would be more concerned about sharing my bed with one of the babies !

I was about to say, nothing wrong with Mexican babes, then opened the web site.

I don’t know enough about guitars or what a basement job is. For me what I’m trying to do is to only work 3 days a week - that hasn’t worked out too well in the sense that I end up working 5 days a week. But I get home about 3 pm, have enough time in the summer to get 9 holes in, ride my bike and / or drink a bunch, fall asleep, get up early and do it all again. Save the weekends for the wife and I’m not in her hair all week.

If I keel over a year or 2 earlier than i should so what

I suppose you have them as well in TX Martyn ? along with snakes & Tarantula's as well !

( I'll have to sleep with the light on tonight !)

Houston had a big flood last year and when we lived there in the early 90’s. You should have seen some of the wild life that came to our houses to escape. Snakes, snapping turtles and the scariest rats you’ve ever seen. Google Nutria - imagine hall a dozen of them running at you!

Martyn I would die I'm sure ! I have to get Mrs C to remove tiny spiders in the bath !

We have cockroaches that are, no kidding, 2 inches long. We have to have the house sprayed every 3 months and even then they come into the house after the rain. It takes some serious violence to kill em

When I went to NY a few years ago I never saw a cockroach but was always on the lookout for em ! taken for granted in hot climates I guess.

Another reason why I love Skeg.

Aldi were selling spider catchers this week..i try not to kill them..as i detest houseflies..Have seen recently a lot of bumblebees..is it a summer for them?

Not many moths at night lately.

Having spent my youth at sea, I personally don’t have problem with insects as long as they don’t bite. Its the screaming when a spider or cockroach is seen and jumping on chairs I can’t stand

Yesterday i decided to retire in January 2019..after 40 years of a basement career..so i bought a late 60's green Telecaster..to celebrate this...after much thinking about a Vox bass.

Mess on here was very helpful..and the prices were stupidly high.

Thanks Mess.

I am too heavy for light work and too light for heavy work..and the body is tatered.Whats with the pins & needles in my mits every morning?

Hoping the guitar playing will stop my hands clawing!

Better dust off that MeetUp itinerary..gonna have me some spare time on my hands.

BTW..Grandad Terry ..congrats...gud' excuse to wet the little boys head when you are over!

Ian.

Good decision Ian by which I mean retiring as well as buying a 60s Telecaster.

I've always loved Telecasters, much more than Strats. I fell in love with them when I saw Bruce Welch with his on the front of a Shadows EP I bought for my 12th birthday.

I bought a 70s US made Telecaster from Cranes in The Broad Marsh in 1979. It was Butterscotch blonde and played like a dream.

Does yours have the ashtray bridge cover? Mine did. I parted with it shortly after I split with my first wife but got a Squier Affinity for my 60th. Unbelievable guitar for £100. I sold it last year and got an Epiphone Casino in vintage sunburst. Not quite the Lennon model but still a lovely guitar.

I still lust after a Riki 360/12 like George played but they're about 3 grand so it remains a dream for now at least. Any chance you could post a pic of your Tele? Where did you get it and how much did you have to pay?

New York has cockroaches and is a great place to work and visit - not so good to live.

Skeg on the other hand used to be something else. My Aunt had a caravan at Ingomills? and i would crash there in the morning after all nighters, better than the beach or the cop shop. Could hear the loud speakers at Butlins.

You are aware it's illegal for a 17 year old to be in possession of both firearms and bombs and explosives, aren't you? Yes, in the last shooting, he'd manufactured home made explosives, made several pipe bombs and a few pressure cooker bombs, planted them around the school and area, luckily he'd been stopped before he had a chance to set them off, or the death toll would have been much higher. We need to find out why kids want to kill each other, is it psychotropic drugs,  is it any drugs?? Is it being desensitized to violence with violent video games, or violent "C" rap "music.??

Of course I'm aware.  It is also illegal in most cases, for anyone of any age, to shoot anyone else of any age.  The single common thread across all school shootings in the USA is the availability of weapons.  Kids don't need to own weapons to acquire, and use them.  They often simply take them from their parents' homes.  And whatever the motivation of the shooters, they would simply not be able to wreak the havoc they have done, if they did not have access to guns.  This does not happen in the UK, or in any other country except the US.

Thanks to various websites, kids can make bombs from the simplest of chemicals, they don't need to have guns to wreak havoc.

I would respectfully suggest, Col that guns of various types have been available in American homes for decades.   The first school shooing  (to the best of my knowledge). Occurred in 1999.  Thus we have to ask ourselves, what changed?

One question that I never see asked in the msm. Is, were any of these kids on any type of pschotropic drugs for hyperactivity, depression or other mental disorders.  From what I see on independent news sites the answer is that, yes, often, they are.  Perhaps society needs to be asking big pharma' some questions.  Doubtful if that will ever happen because they underwrite the news channels with their constant nauseating drug commercials.

Another question to ask is how many of these kids spend hours on shoot 'em up video games?  Perhaps they need restricting too.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not a big gun advocate.  I just believe in looking at all aspects of the problem.

Edited to add.  I had not looked back and noticed that Eyemeducks had mentioned some of these issues.  I second his comments on the issue.

Loppy, please read the list of school shootings which I linked to.  This has been going on in the US since the 19th C and the only common factor is the availability of Guns.

It might be a factor Loppy, but whatever the mental state of the 'Perpetrator', they can only use guns if guns are available and accessible.  This is only the case in the USA.

I am not going to argue with the info presented on W/ pedia.  I was not around at the time but I note that many of these were not school shootings of the type we think of in the last few years.  Ie.  kids running amok shooting other kids.  At least one I noted was a guy who shot two students with a shotgun because they trespassed on his property.  I'm not saying that was ok.  Just that it does not fit the pattern.

Eg.   George W. Longfelt, the school teacher of the Pyfer's School House, killed student Alfred Desem and fled.[9]

I am no fan of Wikipedia.

What I am hearing you saying is that if we just remove everyone's right to own a gun the school shooting problem will disappear.  That's like saying if we ban cars folks won't be able to use them in bank heists.

To this point I have not heard you or anyone else give a sound reason for the rise in horrific shootings of the type we have seen in recent years and the availability of firearms.  I have the same access to firearms as the kids.  I have not the slightest desire to shoot anybody.

We should probably leave it there.  It has been a friendly discussion but I doubt either of our minds will be changed by it.

We used to see hundreds of Tarantulas crossing our driveway when I lived in California at certain times of the year, still have no idea why. Tarantulas are supposed to be around here, although never seen one. We do have some pretty nasty biting spiders, and some pretty coloured ones, although not scared of spiders, I avoid touching them just in case they bite.

I'm more scared of opening the door and coming face to face with an adult brown bear, or being in the fields and a herd of feral pigs comes out of the woods. At least with spiders a size 11 boot puts paid to the problem.

Col as your such an expert on UK gun control maybe you can answer a couple of questions.

Fully automatic guns were banned in 1936 so how come there was a machine gun attack only the other day?

In 1996 Mr Blair spent millions yes millions of your taxpayer pounds to effectively ban hand guns by buying them all from their owners. How come there are shootings almost everyday in this country and of course we still get the occasional mass shooting.

Gun control in my opinion does not and will never work they just import them from where they are legal for criminal purposes in this country. Nip over to eastern Europe and see how east it is to get your hands on small arms and then of course there are no or few barriers to get it back to this country.

As to America can you imagine how much it would cost the government to buy in all those firearms even if they managed to stay in power long enough to carry it through.

One final point you infer that firearms are only available and accessible in the USA I hate to tell you this but that is utter rubbish

Millions of pounds wasted............................

Been helping/watching Paul use a power washer on our patio... he's cleaned it to an inch of its life!  The cats watched him too, at the beginning, but then they panicked when lumps of mossy stuff came shooting out with great force..... the slabs look  a completely different colour to what they were before the wash - I never realised!

There's nothing wrong with guns, per se or knives, vehicles, acids, poisons, lengths of rope or wooden clubs for that matter. The problem lies with people who, basically, want to use them to harm others. The psychopath has always been with us and, since they are usually of above average intelligence, it's impossible to stop their murderous activities before they occur. My father used to say that if there were only two men left in the world, one in the UK and the other in Australia, they wouldn't be happy until they met up so they could bash each other over the head! He was a cynic, like his daughter.

Personally, I prefer animals.

Margie we have a power washer and the first time it was used we had the fine jet installed. So off we went spraying the wall which was dark grey with moss etc. Then we realised with the jet it would take a month to get the wall clean. But When we had finished part of the wall had a lovely circular pattern on it.

When we came here in  ' 88 we saw a lot of scorpions as we renovated the house . Then there was a time we didnt see any , but one night sitting with my legs up on the settee, I had to go into the kitchen and bare footed almost put my foot on a scorpion followed by its baby.

They are black, apparently if you're stung we were told to go if possible to the nearest hospital. Very reassuring to say the least.

Our sons have a rather large ‘power-washer’, pictured here.  This is able to removed rubber off airport runways and paint and thermoplastic off roads. It would also take your legs off if you go too close!   We can’t entice them to come and clean our drive and patio though.
