FLY2 10,108
Whilst cleaning my car, (Peugeot 308S) I noticed that all four alloy wheels are badly scuffed, and the surface is partially beginning to peel away. Has anyone ever had alloys refurbished ? I've seen prices of between £25 - £45 per wheel.
Brew 5,409
I have had several done Fly after 'kerbing' them. One by a moblie operator for £30 a wheel that then cost £40 a wheel to do properly. When they are done they look like new but make sure the the guy is not a back street merchant. Edit: If they are peeling it suggests they are painted, go for powder coating when you have them done - much better job. I have a guy who does this but he is near Derby and I don't know if this is too far for you.
philmayfield 6,115
For wheel refurbishment I can thoroughly recommend The Wheel Specialist at Dunkirk Notts. They’ve done work for me on Mercedes, Porsche, Lotus and Jaguar. Same day service and superb attention to detail. They have a website so you can get an online quotation. They will run you to the bus stop if needed.
NewBasfordlad 3,599
All the lads and their coach out and safe that's got to make you happy. MargieH 7,599
I'm so happy for them, I've been crying.... Â but they will need a lot of care and talking therapy to help them come to terms with their experience. Â I hope the media will be kept away from them for a long time (even though we are all wanting to see them and hear them talk!) but IÂ think that's a vain hope!
loppylugs 8,427
Jill........At least dogs do not usually use their claws or climb on your back.  I don't mind ya'll laughing about the butt biting episode.  We laugh about it too.  At least he had to go through Jeans and underwear before he got me.  He was not full grown and I think he thought I was having him on.  I didn't get mad, but it did sting a bit.  His teeth weren't full grown either.  Nonna..... Beagles do have a very unique bark.  It's almost a cross between a bark and a howl.  It is said the French called them' beeg howls'. This then contracted into the English, Beagles.  A pack of them make a sort of yodeling noise when chasing prey.  Nice dog but very independent and stubborn.  My Lab cross really tries to please and gets very upset if you raise your voice.  The Beagle just stares you down.  We love 'em both.
NewBasfordlad 3,599
Margie I don't keeping the media away is going to happen as I understand it them may well be invited to the World Cup final. Â I'd like to think they were more like us when we were young and less like the modern youth of this country in their mind set and hope this will help them.
MargieH 7,599
NBL I understand what you're saying, but such an extreme experience is very different from the normal everyday 'scrapes' that kids of our generation got into when they were young.   I know you will be familiar with the post traumatic stress disorder sometimes suffered by people in the armed forces after they return to civilian life.  I have read that there are many ex service people nowadays who are not coping well with life and are in and out of psychiatric wards and/or living on the streets. I hope the boys will receive appropriate care anyway...  whatever that might be.

My glasses were at home so husband rummaged in the pannier for some old glasses to lend me, he carried them in a hard case at the bottom of the bag for emergency use. All muckeh and detty it wuz. Opening it up to our delight, there all folded up in the end of the case was my watch. I am now the proud owner of two Rotary watches. One for day use and one for posh doos.

DJ360 6,721
Yesterday was a good but exhausting day. In the seemingly never ending saga of the 'lost' drain at the back of my house. I've recounted how I wanted to replace an internal soil pipe with an external pipe but..  I am delighted to report that hot on the heels of the successful Thai Cave Rescue, the elusive pipe has finally been located. As detailed above.. I dug down some distance from the side of the house but met only concrete. After a period of inactivity to save kitchen fitters from an untimely demise at the bottom of a trench, and a very cold winter.. I resumed operations. I engaged a Plumber who was confident that a new pipe could be run into the manhole and so I proceeded to dig a trench to facilitate same. However, in a startling departure from 'type', this plumber mysteriously became rather disinterested in the job. I located another plumber who at first doubted that the pipe actually ran to the manhole. I disabused him of this notion by demonstration, but he expressed further doubts as to the wisdom of 'breaking into' the existing manhole and undertook to consult a friend of his who works for the 'premier' drain rodding outfit in this neck of the woods. Said consultant was reportedly very opposed to the notion of breaking into manholes, as there is great potential for 'issues', and since 2011, the ownership of the sort of drain which runs along behind my, and several other homes, has transferred to the local water authority, who would potentially hold me responsible for any issues caused by my activity. So.. I decided to re-examine the dome of concrete which covered the point at which the pipe ought to emerge from the rear wall of the house, some 24" below the DPC. I was extremely wary of breaking any pipe, but decided to risk it. Firstly, I chiselled vertically downwards at the edge of the concrete dome, to create a 'discontinuity' between it, and the adjacent soil. I then, very bravely, executed a horizontal chisel cut towards the centre of the concrete dome....... ...Miraculously.. the top inch or so of concrete flaked away, to reveal..... ( drum roll..) the junction of a 'pot' pipe and a plastic coupling. Hurrah!!! After a mere 3 hours of further work with a lump hammer and cold chisel, I succeeded in removing the concrete from above, below and around the entire junction between 'pot' and plastic. I assume this will be a suitable location for coupling in the new external soil pipe. I also acquired two blisters and a bruised knuckle.. but no matter.. I am 'ded 'ard. Incidentally, the pipe I exposed is falling at about 1 in 4 towards the manhole..  Progress.!! I'll probably spend the rest of the day today sitting in the sun and gazing at my handiwork.. Plumber says he may be able to come tomorrow to fit new loo/cistern and external soil pipe. Yippee!!

catfan 14,793
Had a nice chat with an elderly bloke in Bulwell this morning, he being the owner of a 1966 Singer Chamois car ! His car once featured in the TV program "Heartbeat" in one episode, before he bought the car 9 years ago. We discussed, clutch plates, water pumps & the usual head gasket failures on those car variants. Nice interesting chat.

NewBasfordlad 3,599
Col your man was right about the communal drain. Last year ours was blocked and S&T were sent for after inspection and clearing they came to see me knowing I am a registered plumber.  Next door but one had had their WC moved and a new external soil pipe fitted pretty much like you are doing. Their so called plumber had broken into the chamber just below ground level and dropped a bend and short end down to the drain run, totally illegal but it saves a lot of work.  Result, drain blocked, house holder gets £270 bill and is issued an enforcement notice to get it put right, then told they will be back in 2 months to inspect the necessary repairs.

To be honest I've had that manhole open dozens of times over the years and never even a hint of a blockage, so I reckon there would be little risk with a properly thought out 'new run' into it. , paying attention to 'sweep' etc.  But now I can avoid those issues by breaking into the drain where it leaves the house.. which is my bit., and which was always my intention anyway until I encountered concrete.  Hopefully it will all be sorted tomorrow while I am out getting the worse for wear in Liverpool.. then I just have to backfill the mahoosive excavation etc.
