I'm continuing with my 'spring cleaning/sorting stuff out, so I've been wallowing in nostalgia once more.  I've been slowly reading letters sent to me from my mum and (occasionally) my dad from when I left home in the 1960s.  There was a lot I'd forgotten about and I SO wish they were still here so we could read through them together.    It was quite difficult to read them because of my eyesight - I think that may be the last time I'll look at them....  Anyway, nearly everything is in bags and labelled so it will make things easier for the kids to look at when the time comes..... (before a lot of it gets chucked in a skip! )

Had my oncology visit this morning. I was very agitated but everything is fine. The shadow on my lung has cleared slightly so Onc said it was a positive sign.If it had been another tumour it would have shown up darker. But I still have to have another CT scan in June. He's being very much on the ball and not taking any risks. What a relief.

Just got back from the flicks. Been to see “Fisherman’s Friends”. I love their music and the authenticity of it really emphasises that shanties were usually work songs. You can really hear the “stamp and go” as the capstan was worked round and the hauling on the sheets as the sails were hoisted. Been to Port Isacc many times (before Doc Martin) and have heard them sing on the Platt Whilst I’ve eaten my fish and chips (washed down with a pint of HSD.)

However .... the film takes such a liberty with the real story that it’s difficult to see any facts at all. Shame really. I could hear the Port Isaac folks retching from here! Like a cup of tea with 6 sugars ... couldn’t taste any tea at all.

Just got back from walking the dog - really windy but not raining yet. The paper boy - a rather chubby lad - was just ambling down the drive, where he got into a nice Mercedes and a lady (mummy?) drove him to the next house where he got out and delivered their paper. I watched in bemusement and this was repeated down the street. Paper rounds have obviously changed since I were a lass!

I always felt sorry for paper boys/girls at weekends in the shop I worked in. All the supplements in the papers over the weekend, especially on sundays. Don’t know how they managed to carry them on their rounds.

Was feeling a need for a bit of nostalgia but found out through some of the replies  that my Dad had only one arm, had 2 different shops that I never knew about or else didn't exist at all!

Which leaves me wondering if I'm just a figment of my imagination, but my Wife reassures me that I'm certainly still around but suggests an increase of the medication. Why is it that when you return to look at your childhood house it's smaller and seems like it was inhabited by the "borrowers! Who ever took away Northern Bridge?

That's a relief...if you could just tell me where I am I'll be happy or even better who I am!

I like your pix but could I suggest that a Yorkshire flat hat is more comfortable.

I just wonder if meeting outside the Lions' on Slab square is still a  meeting place, it worked for me 52 years ago!

Just been out for dinner and got chatting to two old ladies in the restaurant.  They both worked at RNIB in London years ago translating ‘O’ Level, ‘A’ Level’ and Degree exam papers into Braille.  One lady worked on French and German papers and the other did the Maths and Sciences.   Must say I was well impressed, they were a really interesting pair to talk to.  One is living in a care home now, after a couple of spells in hospital following falls but the other lady is off to Mongolia on holiday in the summer, last year she went on the Trans Siberian Railway for a two week trip.  Our meal was good too!

Strange how some of us do silly uncomfortable things for enjoyment! Today I was determined to catch my first reservoir trout of the season. The cold wind, augmented with an icy shower or two made the fishing very hard. All the other fishermen were sensible folk and fished with the wind behind them - but I knew from past experience that the  fish were on the  opposite bank. So I fished there and had to cast into the icy wind. Bleddy freezin, but I got my fish :).

Well Miducks, I survived my 'Procedure' yesterday, we didn't get home from hospital until nearly 7pm so was shattered. I needed my pillow. All went well, but being 'A mardy little bu99er' I went straight to bed. Glad it's over for now.  I've been eating for England today,  no food for  29hrs, just  water. Worse than prison, at least they get bread with the water in there!
