As I've said some months ago, we're mostly of a similar age, and are totally entrenched in our political views and opinions, and our take on life in general. If like me, most folks formed their views as they progressed through their teens, or earlier.

No amount of cajoling will change people's opinions , but good debating, backed with facts is beneficial to all.

Infantile quips and fabricated rants are no good to anyone.

I agree Fly, move the thread to Private members discussions instead of letting the world see that we don't get on with each other because of political differences

In the next day or so, I will start a new thread for politics in "Private Members Only Discussions" .

Once it's up and running, if anyone posts anything political anywhere else, I will automatically transfer it to that new thread.

I, for one, will never actually look at it.

Good idea! I wouldn't fall out with anyone because of their political views. I like to hear the debate from both ends of the political spectrum.  I hold rightish wing views on some topics but I can be quite socialist when it comes to such things as privatisation of basic industries. I've always thought that a sensible compromise can be reached through sensible and considered discussion. I don't hold with either political or religious dogma. I'm usually right though.

Bit debateable what actually constitutes politics.  I've lived in three countries over the course of fifty years.  In each one the people are allowed a vote approx, every four years.  We vote in one lot.  After four years, sometimes more, one lot is thrown out, often in disgrace.  The previous lot are voted back in,  often forgetting that they were voted out in disgrace earlier.  This goes on,  ad infinitem, ad nauseum.  The only thing they all have in common is that they get progressively worse each time.

I've about had it with the whole bunch.  Talk big until you get in.  Then feet in the trough and business as usual.

Been sizing and splitting firewood, all "green", now it can season ready for winter.

Yesterday proved keeping spares is wise, well pump gave up on me, got me trusty clamp on voltmeter/ammeter, found a dead hornet across the pressure switch contacts...Makes a change to see them get stung, this time with 240 volts. No that wasn't the problem, it was the start capacitor that had died on me, tested with a capacitance meter, and showed nothing.

Replaced it with the new spare one, and back in business.

Rog, I can see your point about moving the discussion elsewhere.  But I don't agree that having differing political views  'lets the world see that we don't get on with each other because of political differences'. We've met and I thought we got on rather well.  :)

Been to Milton Keynes today so Paul could enjoy his birthday present from one of our sons.  He, along with our son, daughter in law and two of the grandchildren had a go on the 'iFly' facility there.  After the initial anxiety, he loved it, even deciding to have the extra boost to fly up to the top of the chamber.   The instructor was excellent and certainly works hard.   I just sat watching and videoing them from the viewing gallery!

I don't think my back would have withstood it!  Afterwards we went for a great meal - all of us really enjoyed the day and it's something we'll never forget.

Thankyou Carni. Unfortunately the pool hasn't  yet been opened yet so just sitting on a chair outside. I've usually seen to the pool myself but this one is very complicated and the pool man took the workings to pieces for the winter and I doubt very much (although I took a video ) that I could put it all back together. All the equipment is in a sort of well and I couldn't reach down. No one else can do it. Husband bad hip and knee, daughter isn't very tall and won't be able to reach and son hasn't got time or patience. Anyway its worth paying someone twice a year to do the work while we relax.,,

I enjoyed doing it Margie, but I took some getting started, feeling tired now though, lawnmower blade sharpened so the grass cut easily, all tools wiped clean with an oily rag and put away ready for next time,"look after your tools and they will look after you" very true saying, trip to Newark market tomorrow, nice walk by the river Trent, have a cuppa and a bite to eat,buy some wild bird food off the market,do a bit of sightseeing, take a few photo's call in at the garden center on the way home, put new plants in the garden, tomorrow all planned, tired just thinking about it
