I was in Boots the other week chatting to the ladies as usual, when she told me that a woman was preparing to steal items, I naturally looked at her and sure enough she put more into her bag and walked out the shop. I asked if she was going to stop her and I was told that it was the policy not to do anything other than let them proceed with the theft due to safety concerns for the staff.

It appears they can steal what they like without any problems.

HE/SHE can make a citizens arrest same as anyone else......What you must be absolutely careful of is not making a wrongful arrest.,,,this could lead to your own arrest and taken to court possibly costing you £thousands,,,you must see,,,the offender,...Approach,,Select,,Conceal,,and leave the premises without payment,,,then all kinds of things can go wrong when it comes to detaining the suspect.....minimun use of force etc...…...

Just got ready for day 2 at the expo. No sales yesterday but lots of interest. The biggest rod manufacturer there with a stand 6 times the size of mine and 4 staff also sold nowt. My new style of fly fishing is intriguing quite a few influential people in the trade, so the day was worth it. What will today bring?

A touch breezy here in the Grand Duchy.  We do tend to cop it as there's not much between us the Liverpool Bay, so we are the first high ground that the weather hits.  Over the years most people have lost ridge tiles, aerials and other bits and pieces.  We've also had two chimneys blown down in our little cul de sac alone.

In my neighbour's case the chimney came off, half smashed through the main roof then the rest fell onto the canopy roof below smashing that up before proceeding to fall onto the bonnet of his car below. That was Christmas Eve some years back. Next door to him, another neighbour gained a metal garage roof, which landed in her garden after leaving its appointed place three gardens away.

Fortunately, over the years, most of us have had ridge tiles 're-bedded' and clips or dry verge installed on eaves.  Some have also had chinmeys re-pointed, or shortened a bit with a longer 'pot' etc. I'm keeping an eye on mine.  Anything not nailed down blew away years ago....

Busy day yesterday setting up my stall at the British Fly Fair International show. This week end will be the moment of truth with my fishing rod project. Will I get my first sale? Will I be inundated? Will I sell none? Been looking forwards to this for ages......report on today's activities later if I survive the post show drinks in the local

PP. My experience from both exhibiting at, and visiting hi-fi shows, is that you don't tend to sell anything expensive at the show... though you may sell smaller accessories etc.  But if you do it right.. you spread the word and in a very real sense, if you aren't advertising your wares one way or another. you don't exist in the minds of your target audience.  Also worth trying to get the attention of whoever is there from the specialist press.  If you are lucky they may mention you in their show report.  That sort of thing.  And of course the bar is jusrt as important as the formal show areas.

I made many, many contacts at shows which ultimately resulted in some sales.  At one show I booked the evening dinner, and ended up sitting next to Russ Andrews, who is probably the best known seller of after-market tweaks/accessories/'upgrades' etc., in the country.  Also at the table was a journalist from What Hi Fi and a valve audio expert associated with Hi Fi World Magazine.  Result!

Good luck with it all.  Make sure you try to record as many contacts, phone No's etc. as you can.

We are definitely testing our new roof out today. Tis blowing a gale. the noise coming down our chimney reminds me of my childhood listening for ghosts in Mappleh Tunnel...Woooooo!

The house whose garden adjoins the bottom of  ours has lost one tile, so far. I can't find any sympathy in my heart seeing as it is their bl00dy dog that wakes me most nights. PS. I wouldn't like it to have landed on the poor animal though, it has enough to put up with.

are you sure that you're not in the eye of the storm, and the wind may be coming the other way.

There is a well known sales model  Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Col is right, that's why we are inundated with adverts on the 'net. Good luck PP

The peak of the storm seemed to pass through a couple of hours ago with the strongest 10 minute downpour I've ever seen.

It was preceded by several claps of thunder, demonstrating that it's also quite mild. When I was out in the car this morning the temperature on the dash was reading 14c.

Could be right Beekay.  Blue skies came and went.  I spotted a twin engined jet flying low towards L'pool.  Quick check on Flightradar 24 showed it to be Ryanair flight from Stockholm to Stanstead which had headed towards Stanstead, turned north west and circled Birmingham a few times before landing at Liverpool.  Passengers must have been dizzy by then.

Back to squally showers now.

We've got super strength winds down here too. The rain is virtually coming horizontally. Had a bloody great branch come down just missing us. No doubt it would've gone through the roof if it struck.

Thanks for your support folks. The show was indoors fortunately but closed a bit earlier than planned - a lot of exhibitors had a long way to travel. As DJ said expensive items tend not to sell at exhibitions and I didn't sell anything. But it was a success! I have been invited to fish with many angler who are keen to see my technique. One of them fishes for England. I have also been invited to give a talk at a big angling association jamboree. So my new technique is creating some quality interest. Off for a pint or three now ;)
