CT. Did you get your appointment on the NHS - most dentists round here seem to only be accepting private patients.
We are still getting NHS  treatment but  Paul’s appointment for a filling has been cancelled twice in the last few months.  He phoned them this morning and the earliest they could do is. 29 December!  (He had to pay for the filling straight after we’d had our check ups a few months ago)

We wihave to try and be polite though or they may chuck us off the NHS list….

Now for something completely different....

Just arrived after a two & half week delay, 'Er indoors scooter has finally made it. All she has to do is get it indoors and  assemble it.

No doubt she'll ask me to help. Just bought her a new spanner too.

Some folks are never satisfied.

A thought just struck me though Phil. 'Er indoors would fit in the box quite nicely. Wonder how much the postage would be?

..... and then there’s the disposal of the box. I usually set fire to these in the back orchard on our bonfire site but you might draw attention to yourselves if you do that in your close!

Regarding disposal of cardboard, the company told me that we have 14 days to change our mind, if we want to send it back. So they suggest we hang on to the box for a couple of weeks or they will have to charge us for a new box if we send scooter back after getting rid of the box. It's not taking up too much room any way.

No, it's private; the place I've been going to for many years.

I'd never bothered to see what the qualifications/criteria are for getting NHS Dental treatment, but I've now had a look around and maybe I'll investigate further. I'm not too fussy who I go to, so maybe I'll make a few phone calls.

Seems to me there's not that much in it when you compare Private Dentistry to the cost of NHS Dentistry if you have to pay.  I presently go to an NHS place, but I'm getting more and more tempted to change to Private. The NHS place has a steady stream of what I suppose are best described as 'Improvers' on their staff and whilst I cant really fault them, you never get to build up any sort of relationship.

Today, I have been developing a slight 'head cold'. Scary in these times but a Covid test was negative.. Think I got it from the wife, who has something similar. Just feel a bit grotty.  Sure I'll live.

Meanwhile my 15 year old Yamaha CD recorder is playing up.  The Disc Tray won't open every time.  I contacted a Yamaha approved repairer who told me it could b just a little belt slipping, but if the whole disc transport needs replacing they are stupidly expensive.

Further online research revealed that repair can be pretty straightforward (If you are lucky), so I think I'll have a look inside it tomorrow.

When we moved to Nottingham 17 years ago I took advice from my private Periodontist (gum specialist) in North London for a dentist in Nottingham mainly because my teeth are good but the ‘foundations’ need regular sorting.  He suggested Chris Gray, a retired Scottish Rugby International and the one I’ve been using in Wollaton for many years. He’s ‘private’ and when my husband asked me to check if there were vacancies at the practice for him he was offered NHS.  Now my lovely gum man is retiring!  I really don’t think there’s much difference financially between Private and NHS treatment but having had many many dental treatments every 3 to 6 months most of my life a trip to the dentist is part of my routine that I won’t neglect.

My nice was asking about our family tree,  it would be nice to see photos, not just names. So I have put to-gether a A4 booklet with names and famlies,  I posted it yesterday, Now I think about it, seeing as most of our photos are now on DVD/computer, it will be very hard for our younger generation to see/find there Family tree. What brought it to mind, can you remember when you got married and the photos  that were taken was first Bride & Groom with all the Brides famiy then the Groom with aii his famiy then that big one with as much family could get on the photo, These are more than photos, They are one of the best things to preserve your family tree.

We were in the odd position of attending two dentistry practices. One private nearby and an NHS one about 6 miles away.

We have been with the private one for about 30 years now paying about £16 a month each which gives you 1 dental check up and 2 hygienist appointments per year plus a discount off any treatment.

In a desire to cut down on outgoings a few years ago,  we thought we would try the NHS one when vacancies came up and would cancel the private one.

That was pre-covid and it gave a dental check either once a year or 6 months but no hygienist.

The premises were a bit grotty and cramped,  compared to our private one but to be honest the dentist , I thought,  was actually  better.

Somehow we never got round to cancelling the private one and then covid happened .

Since lock down ,we'd never heard a thing from the NHS practice , apart from a notice on their website to say they were only dealing with emergencies , no routine checks.

Throughout covid the private one gradually started checks and hygienist appointments.

Two weeks ago we read the NHS one had suddenly closed down !

According to the private dentist last week at my check up,  the NHS guy has had a mental breakdown and shut down !  (I didnt say I was a patient there).

The only way he found out was when he was suddenly inundated with patients trying to sign on with him after the other one closed.

Lucky we didnt make the switch !

Today I am having a lazy day after one and a half weeks invigilating mock exams at a local school.

it was nice to get back to a bit of normality and I felt a bit more confident about it having had my booster before going, however, I still wore a mask especially as the rooms were unventilated. A few of the pupils did to and one of the other invigilators as well. The school didn’t have many cases as well which helped just odd ones picked up by lateral flow tests so that helped.
I must say the kids were a bit more of a handful than last time, don’t know if this has anything to do with the lockdowns but they were certainly a bit more unruly. We did have 2 new invigilators with us who certainly had a baptism of fire as everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I must say I didn’t enjoy it as much as usual, found it a bit stressful to be honest, but hopefully things will have settled down a bit before the next exams. A case of grit your teeth and think of the money which will cover most of the cost of the repairs to my side roof. Got 4 days off now and then just the last 2 exams on monday then the next lot of exams start early next year.
It is a welcome supplement to my pensions, not physically hard although there are a lot of rules and regulations you have to keep up with. Some of the safeguarding has been updated this year which entailed a two and a half hour training session and 4 hours “homework”, but we did get paid for our time. I do have certificates for the courses I had to take to say I passed them which was quite a novelty, been more years than I care to remember since I took an exam!
