How's your day?

Recommended Posts

Retford this morning just two stalls on the market, a few folk about though even if it was raining a bit, nice walk round all the same, called in for a coffee and toast and jam in a place at the side of the market, back home after calling in the petrol station for some fuel ready for tomorrow, after a quick cuppa I set too and cut the birch logs into manageable lumps and they are all stacked neatly, went over the rest of the scrub/twigs whatever you cll them with the brush cutter, think I will look round for a garden shredder to get rid of the rest, getting lunch ready now, fresh Plaice with rice and salad, enjoy tour day everyone

Our day is still the same...very dark and windy, with lots of rain. Still not much sign of life in our close, apart from our poor neighbour who took a nosedive in the car park last Wednesday. After nipping down to our surgery with repeat prescriptions, I called on neighbour to see how she was coping. Apart from a couple of facial cuts, sustained from her glasses, she's sporting a lovely black eye. She was still a little shaken, but fortunately no lasting damage. When I ran out to pick her up it were pouring with rain and I still felt like crap. Took me all me time to lift her. Better luck next year.

Is Beekay 's middle name Gladstone?  He was noted for his work with fallen women.

Seriously, as one who slipped on a tub of spilt apple sauce at a supermarket checkout a few weeks ago, I sympathize with the unfortunate lady. I, too, fell all my length and fortunately didn't sustain any damage.  It was only when I threatened to sue for negligence in cleaning up the spillage that anyone was galvanized into fetching a mop to remove it. Had I been twenty years older with osteoporosis, they'd have been on a very sticky wicket.

I've picked up quite a few women in the last few years. Twice I've picked my wife up and on both occasions she broke her arm, 1st left, then 2nd the right. Mind you, she's the sort who could trip over a painted white line. One occasion was at Sheffield Park Garden. The  lady in question took a tumble climbing over a fence, a few yards from the gate. She had to be air lifted to hospital, but sadly, we were to learn that she passed away later.

Edit..Come to think of it, we've had three people here who have succumbed to falls and not survived.

Cheers Terry, One was a bloke, who took a fall. He broke his hip and while he was recovering in hospital, he succumbed to pneumonia.

We have spent most of the day looking at and booking a trip to New England in the fall next year. Another one off the bucket list.

A happy New Year to all of you, may it be full of happiness, good health and love.

You should be safe Rog. Barrie stalks the streets specifically looking for fallen women.

Hey !! I'm not Beekay the Ripper. Nor am in partnership with Burke & Hare. Mind you, I know a good outlet for bodies.

I won't pick on you Barrie!

Anyroadup..

My last few days have been good. My pre Christmas bug seems to have gone.

I made it to the top of mighty Billinge Hill a couple of days ago. I used a newly opened path, for a different route. It's amazing how a different path through the same terrain can give a whole new perspective.

Went up that way again today. Enjoyed it.

All that said, I'm glad that Christmas etc...is nearly over.. I need a break...;)

Morning to all even , big ears.   Well update on me? just before I update, glad your a lot better DJ360  now back to subject me  I was dianosed with Parkinson's 2010 I was given my nuses details whom I see every 6 months. Last visit i told her that i was having pins needles in both hands, Could not pick up small things if dropped ect ect, A lot of things seemed to relate to Parkie!! but i told my nuse on last visit, Jenny (nurse) who said go to see your GP. (Thats the easy bit ha ha)  any way after sitting with master having a drink in a very nice pub, my glass just fell out of my hand, master put his head in his hand (She;s not with me sort of thing) would not have minded but gass was full of larger.

Any way to cut a long story short this is out come? nealy there. Had a scan urgent assessment needed, phone call from QMC appointment made at spineal unit. Need opp on spine. Or on 6 months could end up in a wheel chair. They say urgent but they wanted to speak with my Parkie doc first. Sorry she is on holiday 2 weeks then she has lots of paperwork to do,when she returns, maybe next March 2023 she can fit you in? Next step find a small dark room some were,  then my fairy God mother waved her wand I am seeing my PD doc this Wed (well there could be light at the end of the tunnel), May be our NHS is not so bad after all. ps just received 2 letters for same day one is phone call the other is face to face oh!! and both same time.

Mary, pleased that the cogs are moving for you now although not sure how the two appointments will work out.  I suspect they are sent out from different departments and one has little idea what the other is doing!

Anyway, all the best xx

Mary, as with all establishments, company's and business's once you get management involved you can guarantee things will go wrong

Started the year well with my gym work. 6k rowing and 12k cycling yesterday. 5k rowing and 10k cycling this morning. Probably do another session thisfto. I always row and cycle a lot in January as a team member of a cyber rowing club. The 'January Team Challenge' is a World wide event hosted by Concept2 - the gym equipment manufacturer. My target is to row 500k during January.  Sets me up for the year :)

Excellent stuff Terry, you put a lot of youngsters to shame, exercising the whole body and not just the thumbs on a smart phone

Sounds good, DJ. I take it the knee pains are now history, which must be a great relief.

Edit, I looked it up on Google earth and youtube, it looks a good steady slog with a rewarding view.

It is Willow. Pretty much a 360 degree panorama from the top. But also lots of nice country around. Many more people seem to have discovered it since lockdown..which isn't necessarily a good thing.

My 'operated knee' is much better, but not quite there yet. The other one continues to deteriorate, limiting how far I can walk before it becomes unpleasant. Still, after a break before Christmas, I'm back into the exercises. I  intend to start swimming again from next week, when the kids are back in school. I asked the Heart Failure Nurse about safe weight training and she's arranged for me to see the 'Heart Failure Physiotherapist'. Blimey!   There's a specialism!

And now the fab news... I'm off on a Fly Cruise to the Canaries in Feb. Fly EMA to Tenerife, then around the Canaries and up to Madeira, and back round in the second week.. Can't wait. Been invited to join my Brother and his wife. Mrs Col also invited but has declined as cruising not her thing  but she's happy for me to go. Who can blame her!

A very sad day yesterday fishing out 40 dead carp following a pollution incident on a club pond. Joined by the owner and the EA guy looking for evidence of the cause. We have a strong suspect but no evidence because the water quality and it's source tested ok when we were there. Without evidence we are powerless to take action. This sort of thing is happening on rivers and lakes on a daily basis throughout the UK. Due to a lack of political will and a massif reduction in the EA budget the current situation with pollution is dire. What can the public do about it?

I have enrolled as a volunteer with an organisation that is monitoring our rivers on a regular basis. I've now got the kit and will be taking samples from the Trent and a tributary on a monthly basis. OK it's citizens science but it is supported technically and is sound. With many thousands of samples it is hoped that the results from this data will have a big impact on our fight against pollution.
