MargieH 5,926 Report post Posted April 22 6 hours ago, Brew said: Today I have mostly been sulking. We had a 'little man round to clean the gutters awhile ago and he managed to move a join and it now leaks down the wall in the middle of the run. Grumble grumble grumble but not really a problem as the join is over the kitchen extension and if I stand on the roof I can reach it - easy peasy... Except the way I access the roof (make that used to access the roof) is out of a small bedroom window and today I managed to get myself stuck half way. Herself was not impressed to find me stuck on the window cill cursing fit to burst and to add insult to injury I've twisted my back in the process. I'm almost positive my legs bent much further than they do now... Sounds like a scene from a TV comedy! Were you stuck outside the window or inside? Seriously though, I'm sorry about your twisted back - hope it will feel better soon.

Top half outside hands on the tiles for support (the roof slopes down) and bum in the air on the inside knees on the cill. I was eyeing the gutter from the patio about an hour ago but got the 'dead eye' and a "don't even think about it"

LizzieM 8,069 Report post Posted April 22 While the weather’s been beautiful the washing machine has been on overtime and today is no exception, I’m washing things I didn’t even remember we had and at the same time I’m chucking stuff out, already been to the charity shop and now filling the bin. Must mention one important point ....... we’re having a water meter fitted on Wednesday, may as well make use of the water before we get metered! 1
FLY2 10,095 Report post Posted April 22 With the rainfall being almost nil in the last month, the water level in my stream and pond has decreased considerably, showing beautiful green moss on my waterfall. On returning home from a trip out this morning, it's been removed by magpies and blackbirds in their quest for insects. I'm certain it's not for nest building at this late stage in spring. I don't mind, but it's a hands and knees job now, picking all the bits of discarded moss from the stream, as it tends to grow amongst the pebbles and clog things up. Mmmmm, a job for Mrs Fly ! Brew 3,089 Report post Posted April 22 Streams, ponds, waterfalls ...all penalties of living in a country mansion - you'll be complaining about the water level in the moat next!

plantfit 6,647 Report post Posted April 22 Are you still allowed to have the staff flogged, I always liked to say "I give you your freedom" when we had staff but that wasn't very often Rog
PeverilPeril 2,296 Report post Posted April 22 Life is good. Put another 9 hour shift into rebuilding my grandson's garden. Now has 8 veggie plots and a patio. Only spuds and broad beans planted so far. Completed my 7 y/o great granddaughters plot today and tomorrow we will plant a few chitted spuds and some shallots. I will also erect an archway for her to grow sweet peas over. The archway will face the proposed play house. Knackered at 6.15 and poured a splendid litre of 6 y/o vintage cider - whoooo. Yes, life is good

AfferGorritt 619 Report post Posted April 22 Really resonate with that! Just moved into maisonette with fairly large, blank canvas garden. Can’t wait to get stuck in. Already got stuck into the cider!

philmayfield 3,460 Report post Posted April 26 Last time I had an ingrowing toenail I performed the surgery on myself. Quite a lot of blood was spilt but the problem was cured. I doubt I have the flexibility to do a diy job now as I’m no longer able to assume the lotus position. At one time, as a party trick, I could put a leg round the back of my neck. I broke wind the last time I tried that though - much to the amusement of the dinner party guests!
