Planet cycles

Recommended Posts

My father used to ride a 'Planet' steel racing bicycle in the 1950's.

The head tube badge stated, made in Nottingham hence the request on this forum.

I cannot find any mention of Planet cycles on any search for the history of the

brand, any information would be interesting to say the least.

Thanks, Lee,

Hi Lee, I've checked through a few of the cycle sites I know but came up with nothing, Raleigh would be the obvious choice but I've not heard of a Raleigh Planet, Carlton was another name used in the cycle industry along with Humber,Hercules,Holdsworth,Phillips, all with Nottingham connectionsm you can try searches on some cycle specific websites such as "Cycle Chat" "CTC forum"  "YACF" or " Retrobike", there is also a very good website called "Sheldon Brown" an American guy with all sorts of cycle related knowledge on the site, Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on

I once had a Bates in my mid teens. The only one I've ever seen.

The only Planet I've ever heard of was the Planet Pintail. That dates from the 40s/50s, but I don't know of any Nottingham connection as they were made in Tyldesley, Birmingham.

this is about the only place I can see it being mentioned on the web...

The place Tyldesley did crop up in one of the searches I did on "Retrobike"   no Nottingham connection though
