Yes, it's definitely not always the heavily tattooed, long haired hard living rockers that succumb to the demons !

For a true reflection on the ravages of drink and drugs on the human body, there is no better read than 'My Cross To Bear' by the late Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band.

It tells the unflinching story of his life, laying bare the unvarnished truth about his wild ride that spanned nearly fifty years.

The rock & roll excesses came at a heavy price, as he fought his battle with alcohol and substance abuse, and going into rehab at least eleven times, and drifting through eight disastrous marriages, including Cher.

The inevitable  liver transplant, the fight against hepatitis C caught from dirty tattooists needles, endless cigarettes.

A truly horrific tale of a life that finally laid him to rest just after his last CD was recorded, whereby he knew he was dying, and the songs reflect this.

This lifestyle is nothing new though. Singers and film stars have done it for nearly a century now.

The film was called 'Ray' and Jamie Foxx played the part of Ray Charles.

Yes, a dark and depressing movie.
