For a couple of weeks I've not been well. Bad pains in my neck. Then Friday last I was stricken with the worse flu I have ever had the misfortune to have. This is not a cold but proper full on, 100% flu and I have never felt so ill. Ever. I'm picking up a bit now but still far from right and feeling vague distant and depressed. When I mention it the reaction is 'oh, there's a lot of it about' Has anyone else had the lurgie. Can't seem to rowst myself at all.

Did you have a Flu jab?

Pains in the neck?  Any possibility it could have been viral meningitis?  My wife had that years ago.  Very scary, but no long term harm.

Have you seen a doctor?

Hope you feel better soon.

I've never had a flu jab in my life, but after my recent bout of ill health I will certainly be having one now & every year from now on. I thought I was going down with the flu but it turned out far worse than that. Don't take chances with your health.

Dr made a rapid appointment for QMC re the neck. Going there early January. Not sure what it might be but she seems a bit concerned. I always have the flu jab and had one this year. I have to have one as I have a compromised immune system due to other medication I take. Obviously this bugger got through. Seen the Dr again and antibiotics now.

Sorry for your flu problem,  letsavagoo.  Hope you'll soon pick up again.

Today, I've been having intermittent sharp stabbing pains in my right ear - hope it will settle down... I can't face trying to get an appointment with the GP.   I suppose I need antibiotics but perhaps it will settle down without?

Might be worth a visit to your local walk in center or a chat with your chemist Margie, either way hope you get better soon.

Lucky bugger!!  Last Thursday I called the Docs and asked for a tube with a long nozzle and a few rather large torpedo shaped 'pills'.  I was promised them next day....  No joy..  Then it was .'Monday'... then it was the Pharmacy 'We 've ordered them but we can't get them' .. then it was 'call Weds'. then it turned out it was a 'manufacturing problem'.. WTF?  Have they forgotten how to make it??  A chap at the Boots pharmacy said they often change the 'lines' to make different stuff and misjudge it. so they run out of stuff before they get it 'back on line'.. Really?

Eitherway.. finally got a couple of different products today.. exactly a week after I politely requested them...

So now you know why I haven't spent much time SITTING at the PC for a week or so.... ...

Hope you are feeling better. The flu in the UK is MUCH more debilitating that in the USA. I am still learning my way around here. Seems i cannot find how to reply to individual posts. I have been gone for a few months as my Mum died. Seems we are all getting up there in age when it seems like just yesterday we were at school.

I did get an appointment with the GP but she said it was maybe viral in which case antibiotics wouldn't help. She did give  me a prescription for antibiotics but said to only take them if my ear got worse (therefore infected)  It didn't, so I have an unopened prescription in my fridge!

Yes LL, I'm still recovering very gradually, and I can verify that it's very dibilitating, and energy sapping.

I began on Christmas morning feeling lethargic and weary. I'd had a sore throat and sneezing for about a fortnight previously, and thought I'd beaten it, but unhappily I was bedridden for the next nine days. Little food intake, and I called out the doctor after five days, and had a weeks supply of antibiotics. I ventured out to a garden centre yesterday afternoon, but returned after an hour completely shattered. Likewise today, eating better but worn out. Another week should see me right.... Hopefully !

Edited.... I meant to reply to letsaveago, not LL....... I must be still delirious !

Yes, that did have me puzzled for a minute.  Anyway. I'm glad you're on the mend and hope that it continues.   Keep warm and don't push yourself too hard.

Let's hope Letsavagoo is on the mend also.

Thank you Margie, but it'll be a good few weeks before I get my energy back to full strength. It's just a case of not doing anything too strenuous and a gradual process. It's definitely the worst I've been feeling for years, and I'm not used to it.

I've just noticed someone was asking after me. Thank you for that. I'm much better now but still not well. I've had this flu that's been doing the rounds, Australian I think. Not just happy thrashing us at cricket then. It has settled on my chest now. You don't want to know what I keep coughing up. But I'm on the mend. As for the neck. I went to the QMC yesterday. Hardly anyone there. I got there early and was seen 10 minutes before my appointed time. Anyway the specialist had a good prod and poke and thinks it's just reaction to the flu that has upset the lymph nodes etc. Got to go for a scan to be sure but he thinks it's nothing that won't clear up on its own. It has been really painful right up until Saturday when it seemed to improve overnight. So I'm looking up thanks. I think it will take a while yet. I've had this now for weeks and it's getting me down. Can't seem to raise much enthusiasm for anything but I'm up and out a bit.
