philmayfield 6,130
I knew it was the Clinton. I was just trying to flush out who had been there!
FLY2 10,108
Jonab , I saw the appalling varicose veins too, but did you notice the blackheads. Truly horrible. No blooming wonder I've never been a boob man !

I'm not embarrassed or ashamed of having been in the Clinton - I've been in much more insalubrious places since. All part of life's great tapestry. FLY2, No, I didn't notice the blackheads but then, I wasn't looking at her face - or do you mean she had them elsewhere?
philmayfield 6,130
Yes, I know what you mean. I was actually thrown out of a Paris nightclub - but that’s a long story I won’t go into.
Waddo 921
I think you'll find that most of the barmaid's in the Clinton arm's were part time, as they had full time Job's at the other end of Sherwood st ( Forest rd)!!
k p lehmann 6
I've got some photos of Nrth Sherwood St and Forest Road but am unable to transfer them onto this website. notfickjustdontnonote ... .. .

Probably because they'd be pornographic.!!! Bearing in mind the reputation that Forest rd had!
k p lehmann 6
Know what you mean Waddo but back in the day this area was referred to as Sandfield and quite a select area in which to live. Not sure that the High Schools would be situated in this vicinity had they have known how it is today not to mention the wonderful houses and two parks etc. Time waits for no man as they say. Any one got a spare screw for my Tardis - Wilko's is shut !
philmayfield 6,130
There used to be a good pub at the corner of Goldsmith St and Forest Rd. whose name escapes me but is on the tip of my tongue.
philmayfield 6,130
Thanks. Vernon Arms. It was a respectable pub for the area.
philmayfield 6,130
I do remember the Arboretum Hotel which had a good restaurant. Both that and the Vernon were owned by George Akins back in the late 60’s.
k p lehmann 6
What happened to Ristes further down from the Vernon. Nice motors if you could afford it.
philmayfield 6,130
Ristes are still going and are on Gamble St. behind Alfreton Rd. Still specialising in Rolls and Bentley.

Jill Sparrow 10,305
Remember it well. As a family, we often walked there and back on a Sunday afternoon, early to mid 60s. Once got caught in a tremendous thunderstorm and dad's new Harris tweed jacket was ruined!

k p lehmann 6
Thanks Ian. Did Peachy Street connect with South Sherwood Street and which years did you live there - if you don't mind me asking ?
TBI 2,351
Peachy St was a dead end so no vehicle access to North Sherwood St. I think there was an entry along the back of St Albans so you could walk through though, Ian will know for sure.
