Jill Sparrow 10,269
I met him once. He was standing outside what was then Kwiksave in Alfreton, along with the lurcher who played his dog, Alfred, in Heartbeat. People were queuing up to stroke the dog. Bill was dressed as his character from Heartbeat and collecting money for some charity or other. I'd heard him also guesting on Dennis McCarthy's programme on Radio Nottingham. He had fairly entrenched political views which I won't go into here. Seemed a nice enough chap.
Commo 1,292
Loved his work from seeing him at the Empire in the 50`s billed (no pun intended) as the "original sweater boy" through to his Greengrass. Thanks for the laughs Bill.
woody 549
Once saw him open a carnival in Hucknall in the guise of Selwyn Froggit when I was a kid. A very talented and funny man. R i p
