Anthony Hood 39
Hi David Just got in from the garden (started at 07:30), boy it's nippy out there this morning. Dug up 3no fruit trees - boy those roots were tough!! Thought I would sign in again before popping down to B&Q. I digress... The lady that VI vaguely recognised was the lady on the left of the row of four gentlemen (unfortunately not you great Aunt). When I Vi tomorrow I will mention Ethel and Frank Trueman, also Mrs Haslam. We'll see if her 'light bulb lights up above her head!! Vi couldn't make out if the bus was Trent or Barton - any idea? Where do you think these day-trippers were going, Skeggy maybe!! If you know of any more names, 'shout out', and I will pass onto Vi. Incidentally, Vi mentioned that she went to what is now called Porchester Road Junior School on Morley Road. I can't remember what name the school was in her day. She hasn't mentioned having any photo's, so that might be another avenue to explore for her, ie photos of the school (preferably class photos, and names of children). Vi was born in 1928, so I looking at approx 1935-1940. Incidentally, I visit the same school every afternoon - school run to pick up my Nephew. I'm just round the corner so handy for my Sister!! There is a Dutch bloke at one of the Hotels where we stay in Nerja ,,he uses a Zimmer all the time except on the Dance floor. He and his Mrs,who i would guess are both late 70s,,) really give it ''Welly'' he stands in one spot and just uses his hands to throw his Mrs all over,,the floor often clears and folk stand back ''Clapping'' them,,............its funny when they finish,,he takes a ''Bow'' and shuffles back to his Zimmer''...........so Barrie' just park near the Dance floor and go for it...............lol

A big welcome robin oppsss!!! sorry Anthony Hood. The Victory/ Locarno was the start of St Ann's Well Road, facing the Vic was Bath St thus going up to the wash house victory swimming baths and Sneinton market, there was a roundabout and standing with your back to bottom of Bath St The Salvation Hall was left, then Market St then St Ann's Well road. The only recollection I have of it being a Casino was of the few fruit machines it had in side, I used to go with mum to the Bingo only to keep her company of cause. What is interesting is that you did actually play Bingo, you had a card with the word "BINGO" at the top and the caller would say ex! under the B 24 under the G no 5 and so on.
doodle 35
Did anyone go to the Palais on a Saturday morning. I used to go in the late 60s early 70s with quite a few friends. I think it was 6d to get in and was from 10am to midday or was it to 2pm can't quite remember but I know we really enjoyed ourselves - maybe it was for teenagers as said can't quite remember. No I think it was midday as sometimes we follwed on to the cinema on the Queens Road in Beeston (Essoldo?) for the sat'day afternoon film again 6d I think to go in. Jill Sparrow 9,663
My parents had their wedding reception at The Palais on 25 June 1949. Ben would be a tad too young for admission at that time! The two youngest bridesmaids, aged 6 and 3 years might have found him of interest! My cousins Rosemary and Ann. Both grew up to be very good looking and both are now deceased.
HSR 276
Thinking it was about '85, remember seeing WASP at the Palais, Mon/Tues night, Wrathchid supporting. Not a huge fan of either, too busy playing pooyan over the road at space city but had previously bought a ticket. Anybody else attend? remember outside? Madam X, roughly 2 Weeks later was cancelled...

Annesley Red 63
First went there as a 16 year old on a Monday nights, I don't think alcohol was on sale ;does anyone know? Later years I used to hate wearing a jacket and a tie and trousers instead of jeans. Young clubbers nowadays don't know how lucky they are. lol
Deepdene Boy 640
LIzzie, it was where my Mam and Dad met in 1962, so without the Palais, in all probability, I wouldn't be here now.

radfordred 6,278
I did visit The Palais early 80s, probably turned away more times than I was let in, I was more Rock City & The Asylum, but like @benjamin1945 it’s the fighting I remember, proper music off & all out brawling, girls screaming, bottles & glasses chucked, getting thrown out & back in for more, bouncers lost control, and my youngest brother claim to fame when he sparked out so called Forest/ManUtd/Celtic/RepublicOfIreland hardman over a girl called Paolo, she worked in the travel agents near the train station, gets a mention in Mr Keans autobiography.

Cliff Ton 10,004
I don't know about the various entrances. I've only ever been in the Palais a couple of times, and would never go into anything called Bali Hai.

Jill Sparrow 9,663
As I've mentioned before, my parents held their wedding reception at The Palais in 1949. I've often wondered exactly where and presume it was downstairs. In those far off days, according to what is printed on the receipted account, The Palais offered private catering for weddings and other functions as opposed to the nightclub it became in later years. My mother said it was a wonderful spread, bearing in mind that rationing was still in force. Presumably, the Victoria Ballroom didn't offer catering for such occasions, otherwise they might have held their wedding reception there, since that is where they first met.
