Part of the pleasure in spending your later years near where you grew up....is bumping into friends from 60 years and more ago.......\i constantly do this in Bulwell.....old school pals from the 50s a

I listen to "Always" and I'm thinking of fabulous Mrs WW, from happy courting days to the sweetest honeymoon, through all the years, all the sunsets, all the sunrises, all the hard times, near disaste

Moved into our new home today,,now sat quietly apart from a little jig when the music of Dr Hook gets too much to sit still, The site seems to have got back to its friendly ways,,so I'm back,,

More can also be good...

Recall seeing Thor & Manowar at Rock City...

I'm sure there had to be an element of comedy...?

On a side note .. More, were a very good band, opened Donnington ' 81.

I will always have a soft spot for NWOBHM. Indie labels and DIY.

A very healthy scene..

The Bull ring.

That reminds me of the tragic day when the pub underneath the Rotunda, The Mulberry Bush, was bombed along with another pub on New Street. We had been in the Rotunda a few hours earlier having our final interview to emigrate to Australia. We left the UK almost a year later.

Ian, I was quite indifferent when Love Affair came along in the late 60s but I've since come to really like them. Steve Ellis has a wonderful voice.

He had a nasty accident some years back that took him a long time to recover from.

Arlo Guthrie is the son of the late great Woody Guthrie.  Now retired..he's a songwriter probably most famous for 'Alice's Restaurant' ..though he also wrote 'City of New Orleans' and other songs.

Alice's Restaurant is a humorous take on his experiences with 'The Draft' during the Vietnam War..and how his recruitment to the US Army was affected by his 'criminal' record.... but with a very serious punch line.

It was released in 1967 and was a big hit.. also made into a film..which I saw at the cinema.

Worth 18 minutes of your time if you've not heard it ...

I saw Love Affair at the Beachcomber as Everlasting Love was climbing the charts. There's is a great version.. but  like most of us at the time I had no idea that it was a cover of this, the original Robert Knight version..which only made No. 40 in the UK charts.

Sorry DJ360 but Steve Goodman wrote City of New Orleans, he died from leukemia at the young age of 36 in 1984.

Arlo Guthrie was one of many that have covered this classic his best version was with Shenandoah. Others that have covered it are the Highwaymen, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Johnny Cash and Judy Collins to name but a few.

https://youtu.be/OfxoM6trtZE for Arlo Guthrie with Shenandoah which I think is the best version

https://youtu.be/e4ztWNJYFrU for the Steve Goodman version and an explanation about him writing the song.

That video was weird Enigma.  I couldn’t get rid of it off my screen then it just showed the words ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ over and over again.  I didn’t  like it when it wouldn’t  go away.....
