Season of Goodwill??

Despite my whinging (above), I will always be grateful to Nottsalgia to getting me back into understanding, and using, proper idiomatic English and, more specifically, Nottinghamese - which I was in danger of losing.

It's seems that my thoughts were the thoughts of many, having said my piece I'm going to forget it. So on my part here's to a peaceful new year and an even more peaceful NS. Long may she live.

All this back biting from a small number of members can upset a lot of members, you can voice an opinion but don't insult people. Go on facebook if you want to do that. Don't like the post then don't read it, if you come on this site just to insult people then leave this site and don't come back. I myself don't post much but I like to read the post that's interesting.  Happy Christmas  to all.

Not too sure how you would do this, the word oxymoron comes to mind

With all due respect Braddy I would suggest that what we have seen here is not just a small groupf of members.  Certainly the largest group I've seen in my years here.

It is also generally well known that for every vocal person in a group there are probably at least a couple more who feel the same way, but won't speak up.  Often they will just leave the group or in this case, site.

I'd like to point out, this site was set up and run by Mick, it has, and still does cost him money to keep it running, you'll notice Mick rarely logs in or posts these days.

Why, he's one of those who are fed up with bickering and back biting.

I might suggest those responsible cut it out or you could find the site closed down, that's not a threat by the way, just a fact.

Twice I managed to persuade Mick to keep it going, I don't know how much longer I can keep him from pulling the plug, so think before you post, or we could well end "up on the street"

Just my 2 cents worth.

No need to do that John.  If my observations are consideried bickering and backbiting I'l go and do it somewhere else.  With my present problems I don't need to raise my blood pressure anyway.

Edited to add.  Looks like we're living on borrowed time anyway regardless of what any members say.

Won't be my decision Dave, I'm just one of the hired hands, don't be fooled by my "rank", I don't make many decisions on anything, I leave all that to Mick. I just try to be a referee, I rarely pull the Yellow card and so far haven't pulled the red card either.

TBH Dave, from all your posts I've read, you've been the perfect gentleman.

Please everyone pass on our Christmas wishes to absent friends who havent posted lately. That is if you are in contact with them. I have missed quite a few don't know them personally but feel that I know them.

Sad to say that over recent weeks I have often thought that there has been  a cruel intention to bring the site down. I can't think of any good reason for the bad attitude posts.

I know I’ve posted this before, but I can’t resist. For me it really brings home the spirit that lies beneath the commercialism. I’m not even a Christian but still get the sense of awe that the last few lines evoke. John Betjeman’s “Christmas”

The bells of waiting Advent ring,
The Tortoise stove is lit again
And lamp-oil light across the night
Has caught the streaks of winter rain.
In many a stained-glass window sheen
From Crimson Lake to Hooker's Green.

The holly in the windy hedge
And round the Manor House the yew
Will soon be stripped to deck the ledge,
The altar, font and arch and pew,
So that villagers can say
"The Church looks nice" on Christmas Day.

Provincial public houses blaze
And Corporation tramcars clang,
On lighted tenements I gaze
Where paper decorations hang,
And bunting in the red Town Hall
Says "Merry Christmas to you all".

And London shops on Christmas Eve
Are strung with silver bells and flowers
As hurrying clerks the City leave
To pigeon-haunted classic towers,
And marbled clouds go scudding by
The many-steepled London sky.

And girls in slacks remember Dad,
And oafish louts remember Mum,
And sleepless children's hearts are glad,
And Christmas morning bells say "Come!"
Even to shining ones who dwell
Safe in the Dorchester Hotel.

And is it true? and is it true,
This most tremendous tale of all,
Seen in a stained-glass window's hue,
A Baby in an ox's stall?
The Maker of the stars and sea
Become a Child on earth for me?

And is it true? For if it is,
No loving fingers tying strings
Around those tissued fripperies,
The sweet and silly Christmas things,
Bath salts and inexpensive scent
And hideous tie so kindly meant,

No love that in a family dwells,
No carolling in frosty air,
Nor all the steeple-shaking bells
Can with this single Truth compare –
That God was Man in Palestine
And lives to-day in Bread and Wine.

The subject of financial contributions has been mentioned a few times in the past, but I don't think such help would be necessary. The amount involved isn't great.

Mick started spending his money on Nottstalgia to allow people to talk about their memories of Nottingham, the past, and life in general. Unfortunately, it sometimes seems as though he's paying to allow people to be objectionable and unpleasant.  I'm pretty sure that was never part of the original plan.

(Nor were word games but that's another matter)

I'm not complaining, but if swift action at the top had been taken months ago, we wouldn't be in this unfortunate predicament.

That's my last words on the subject, but if I'm verbally abused in future, I'll react accordingly.

I also fully appreciate that the Administration staff have their hands tied, and can only do so much.

My thanks go out to them.
