A few weeks ago Talking Pictures started showing the surviving episodes of Dixon of Dock Green.

 

They look incredibly slow and polite now; showing a cosy, comfy world which may or may not have ever really existed.

 

Jack Warner (George Dixon) was never going to be any kind of Action Man, but you wonder what he actually did on a normal working day.

I'm sure the tv series was a spin off from the film, 'The Blue Lamp'. Same actors, with the lovely Petula Clark as the daughter.

Set in the East End, possibly the most unlikely place to find the almost genteel world it portrayed
