I  had hardly a thing wrong with me, till I reached 70, then all ailments, aches, pains, shape changing took place. Awful !

Funnily enough Fly I've been fine , health-wise till Friday just gone and then I felt absolutely shocking , (won't go into detail) ...but it was too late to get into the docs before the weekend and thought I would be unable to travel to my son's in Northants on Monday as planned .

Luckily after a bit of self-medicating with stuff we had in the medicine drawer and a few early nights , made a dramatic recovery , enough for the 7 hour drive yesterday .

Just hope as you say it's not an indication of things to come !

Hopefully not Dave. Every time I've visited the docs over the last few years, he's told me that it's just wear and tear.

Just keep active and mentally alert, it does me ok actually. There's many folks far worse off than me, and much younger too.

Thinking about it Dave, I've lost four in laws over the last couple of years. One slightly older than me, (I'm 73) and a very heavy smoker, and two slightly younger than me, but one a heavy drinker, and both were heavy smokers with bad diets and unnatural sleep patterns.

The last one was twelve years younger than me, too many fags, fatty foods and bone idle.

So Dave there you have it. A reasonable diet, plenty of exercise, no smoking and sensible alcohol intake.

I thought we were going to lose my sis in law on several occasions over the last few years. 63 and looks 83. About six teeth, all brown, a ridiculous smoker, even after the most serious talking to by doctors. One senior doctor told her that her next cigarette could be her last. A week later, she was back on the roll ups.  Also, irregular eating, no exercise whatsoever

We've been called to the hospital in Hants three times in two years, because she collapsed once. One time with pneumonia as she stands at the back door smoking, then gets cold, and another time when she was in hospital because she couldn't breath.

Shes a walking nightmare, and exists on about 20 tablets a day, an inhaler, and has had to see a specialist to help her to learn to breathe again. Ffs, she's 63, and must have cost the NHS hundreds of thousands over the years.

I've got to the stage where I tell her that she's a waste of space. You can't help people who won't help themselves.

Crikey, sorry to put a damper on the day Dave. You just take care.  :jumping:

Like Phil, I'm 76 now, but I reckon I'm reasonably healthy (apart from my eyes... and they won't kill me!).

I agree with FLY about having a good diet, no smoking and not too much alcohol (none in my case). I do try to have some exercise as well, but it's only walking and gardening....can't be bothered with going to a gym.  I do like swimming but all of the places are several miles away.... wish we had an indoor pool at our house then I'd swim every day!

Oh please don’t say that Phil, I’m reaching that this year too, I’m looking upon it as ‘the new 50’ which only seems 5 minutes ago.

A friend of mine has not had a birthday for a number of years she has a celebration day, we all know that she reaches her "milestone" this year. I think we shall have to design a special poster that doesn't mention her age.

Cor lummy she sounds a catch !

Though she wouldn't reckon much to me , don't drink , don't smoke , dead boring really .

I suppose exercise or lack of , is my weakness.....must do better !

Happy birthday from me too . 70 isn't too bad when you get used to it. My next one is 77 (and I had to stop to think AND reckon up.)

Margie, it sounds like they're all youngsters bar us. Can't believe I'm 76 next. I drive a mini bus for a retirement village and had a police check cause they are "old and vulnerable". I'm older than most of 'em.

BK. to my knowledge there are about 4 or 5 people on here older than me...  may be more but everyone doesn't put their year of birth on their profile!   Not that they should, of course...... !   Some people don't like putting too much information on the internet.... BIG BROTHER and all that
