In song association thread, I saw someone post "40 miles from Poplar Bluff" Tha's a small town just a few miles to the east of where I live.

Porter Waggoner was born and raised in West Plains, about an hours drive to the north west, there's even a road named after him.

Mansfield, on the way to Springfield is where the author of "Little House on the Prairie was born.

Alton, our local town was "sacked" by the Union army during the civil war, the court house was burned to the ground, there is a brick building built there now on the foundations of the wooden one.

Mammoth Spring, reputed to be one of the worlds largest fresh water springs is about 30 miles south of me, Tess Harper the actress hails from there.
