I liked Aussie Clive. Always used to watch his programmes. Found him far more entertaining and self deprecating than Jonathan Miller who has also left the departure lounge.  I gather Miller had been suffering from dementia. That's the trouble with brains. Glad I don't have any to speak of.

I can only comment on the death of the boy from Kogarah, I can only back up what Terry and Jill have said, a sad loss.

Adding to what Deepdene Boy said I wonder which celebrities Nottstalgians would have round for dinner, either living or departed?

I've had a couple of glasses of wine.. but at the moment I'm thinking I'd quite like a dinner party with H.G.Wells  ( 'War of the Worlds', 'Men Like Gods', 'The Time Machine', 'The Shape of Things To Come' ) ..with Arthur. C. Clarke.  ( 'Rendezvous With Rama', 'Childhood's End', '2001' etc..) and with Charles Dickens.. ('A Christmas Carol', 'Great Expectations', etc.. etc..)

The first two would remind us of how our ego as the Human Race sets us heading for a fall..  Dickens would remind us of the possibility of Realisation and Redemption.

Not too many laughs... though Wells could be hilarious. ( 'The History of Mr Polly.'. 'The New Accellerator') but we might learn something....

Hopefully while it's not too late.

P.S.  I loved Gary Rhodes' cooking..  but the way he used to Ooohhh Soohhh Slooooowly plaace food on plates, with over exaggerated movements of spoons etc.. used to drive me nuts!!!  Others.. such as Nigel Slater.. picked up on the same thing.  Seriously annoying...  'Just put the food on the b****y plate!!  Now !!!

Aussie Clive - we were both saddened to hear of his demise. Probably his zest and wit kept him going for his last few years.

Three for dinner?

1. Asimov.......for his latest take on AI.

2. Ian M Banks......for his take on drugs and sexuality.

3. Kurt Vonnegut jr.......might turn up anytime if his chronosynclasticinfundiblium theory is true....probably already turned up but we don't know about it yet.

..and a forth - Clive himself to bring a little disorder to the party.

He was undoubtedly well educated but I personally found his presentations overly wordy, never said a word when he could squeeze three more in. The nasal twang and his sometimes very cruel descriptions left me ambivalent towards him.
