management of the CV situation is somehow outside of politics. is mistaken.

I realise many comments re coronavirus are bound to have political content, I did elude to that, so why aren’t they there, in the anything political thread. Isn’t that what it’s for. Political matters. Let’s have a ‘Political comments about coronavirus’ thread then, perhaps a sub section of anything political.
General comments about cv like NonnaB’s are not political.

Well said HSR. My thoughts exactly other than I know where political comments should be banished to, namely ‘ANYTHING POLITICAL’ . Is that not why it was asked for and provided.
Of course there will be ‘off topic’ matters discussed. Personally I don’t believe that this forum is the right venue for political point scoring back and forth at all. There are other forums to do that where one can chat with others with strongly held political views. You know people educated to degree level in political studies,  who can discuss at a high intellectual level where we’re going wrong, what a complete waste of space Boris is and how Corbean was vilified in the media so we were all brainwashed into a Tory Brexit etc etc et bloody cetra. This surely should have Nottingham history at its core. Nottstalgia. It’s just lost it’s way. I rarely look in anymore.
Perhaps I’ll look for a Marxist or Tory forum and see if I can start an ‘anything Nottinghamshire history’ related thread and discuss our local history there.

Well I got sick of reading this thread.  Bit like watching TV news where all news reporters know better than professionals in the medical field.

The trouble is, if like me, you moved away from Nottingham many years ago(33 to be precise) you soon run out of things to say. No bugger wants to know where I  were dragged up in a slum clearance 50s. When I do get the opportunity to return, I hardly recognise any of it and have even got lost once. I don't  regret one bit of my childhood, except of course when I bit me tongue in half and had 7 stitches without anesthetic,  up at children's hospital. I realise this is nowt to do with Covid19 but being under house arrest for the last sixty odd days, gives you time to reflect on your past (and vunerability). If anyone is interested, I'm still painting Wollaton Hall.

Better shurrup nah.

Of course we want to hear about you being dragged up in 50s Nottingham. That's what this site is all about. Memories, good bad or indifferent, about Nottingham.

So tell us, do you now speak with forked tongue?

No lil' sis, they still can't understand me. But at least I no longer have to show me passport when crossing the Thames. One thing amuses me when I'm  working in the coffee shop at our hospital, people still say ' you're not from around here are ya! But because I say cold instead of cowd and you instead of yo, my late brother used to say I'd gone posh. Again nothing to do with CV, sorry. Stay safe Jill.x

Of course there is but evangelism is specifically a Christian term when talking matters of faith.

Right,. My last word on evangelism.  I recognise that it is mostly seen as an aspect of Christianity.  however.. a few months back I heard someone on the Radio in a serious discussion stating that Islam was also and evangelical religion. This had not occurred to me before.. but it struck a chord. I accept that most might not (yet) see it this way, but a quick google revealed this:

is Islam evangelical?

I believe that you really want the word "evangelistic", meaning "seeking to make converts".

And yes, Islam certainly is evangelistic, trying to convince people to become Muslims.

The same could be said for communists, vegans, and Christians.

"Evangelical" refers to a kind of Protestant person or denomination that stresses Bible Study, one-on-one evangelism (seeking to make others convert), and believing that Faith only comes after a religous experience,

So, I'll concede on this.. but there is clearly some debate.

The point you are making is valid.  And noted.

However, there is no need for you to make it in such thinly veiled and nastily personalised terms.

News Covid 19 today. All set for 18 th for the opening of various activities. Bars and restaurants can open but there are some restrictions. For those who have large properties are fortunate because they can allow 4 metres between tables but those with smaller properties? It doesn't bear thinking about my son will have to put 4 tables together to accommodate 2 people. How can they work like that? He is "lucky" in the sense that he has an outside dining area but that will only be able to accommodate 2 tables, inside the dining room maybe 3 tables and he has a cellar that he uses as an overflow but in the summer even with air conditioning gets stifling and is closed except for those wanting to see it and the "crutin " beneath. My daughter has also 3 areas to use but the shape of her restaurant will limit further the amount of tables she can use.Just seen on tv restaurants are complaining, they are sympathizing for the smaller places as they won't be able to make a living and will undoubtably close. People that have struggled for years to build up a successful business all to be knocked down by some stupid restrictions. Rather than make these restrictions it's better to wait a bit. In any case here in Piemonte 18th doesn't include us, we have to wait another week until 24th and you can bet at the end it will eventually be June 1st as previously predicted. We still have to find a firm that will be able to disinfectant everything.

Sorry if this had been posted before but come to reply to a post ,I found it there so presume I didn't post it when I wrote it.

Now I write about cv because we have different rules than the U.K. and I'm supposing that eventually they will apply to those in the U.K. Everyone else seems to be coming out of lockdown but we are being very cautious. Maybe too cautious , who knows. At the moment there's a revolt going on with restaurateurs who say under the new rules they will not open. Watching tv this morning "corona special" they covered all aspects of businesses opening. Beaches have to be private with reservations made. Umbrellas 4 mt away etc etc but the thing that got me was when they said ( one of the rules) "mouth to mouth resuscitation "was not allowed. How can they risk the life of a human  being? One reporter said it was like asking a fireman not to put out a human body in flames. Regarding restaurants , I've already commented on these stupid rules. As regards disinfecting, a chef, being a specialist in many things including virology and reckons that over disinfecting would have the opposite effect. It would make the germs, bacteria immune to any treatment.

I get the gist that my comments about cv aren't really relevant. I see it as an insight to what we are going through here and how we feel.

Its difficult for everyone and although we don't agree with most of what the govt tell us there's little we can do. If you find this topic uncomfortable I will refrain posting, but we are all in the same boat and want to see the end of it.

Ps no doubt you've heard about the Italian girl who was kidnapped 18 months ago? Well if you see pictures of her with a group of people albeit some with masks, there was no social distancing , and no fine !!!

loads of photos of crowds concerning govt officials  still no fines. BUT, one of the small bars in the village was serving coffees and brioche from the window. Disposable cups and plates. Customers moving away from premises to consume. The bar was fined because the customer had just taken possession of the cup and plate.  Giustice ? I don't think so. This is what we are up against.

I will say no more

This will be my final comment on this. I tried to be subtle in an earlier post but the reply was

Quote.

However.. trying to remove politics from any discussion involving the management of our society.. whether it be its health. its economy or whatever.. is to deny reality.  Anyone who thinks that the UK Govt. position on, and management of the CV situation is somehow outside of politics. is mistaken.

so my further post wasn’t veiled at all. It was blunt. You most likely perceived it as ‘nasty’ as it was a dig at you. Dig yes but it certainly wasn’t nasty or intended to be so. I hate this ‘keyboard warrior’ culture and am not nor will be part of it.
I don’t necessarily disagree with some of your reasoning, not all but I won’t and don’t engage in political or religious discussion on a forum intended and conceived as a local history forum.
I understand perfectly well that this forum has grown and matured and many other subjects and content make it (or once made it) a wonderful pleasant interesting forum.
I turn on the radio. CORONAVIRUS constant. The TV constant. I look on a Nottingham history forum and get stream of political Coronavirus. That’s fine if that floats your boat but all I ask is to keep political comments, whatever they relate to, in the political thread.

Is that asking too much.
I am surprised that the moderator(s) have allowed thIs coronavirus thread sink into the political debate that much of it has.

a final word on evangelism. I think Col, we can meet half way on this. Although the correct use of the word relates specifically to Christianity it is commonly misused and if you say someone or some religion evangelises then it would be understood.

As I understand it... there is a school of thought that using things like 'Antibacterial' cleaners is likely to encourage resistance by some bugs.. a bit like the over use of Antibiotics.  However.. using bleach does not create this issue bacause bleach chemically dissolves and completely destroys bacteria and viruses...assuming you use the correct strength.  An acquaintance on another site who is a chemist and food technologist confiirms this.

I understand what you're saying. We have to do the balancing act which isn't easy to judge. In situations like this, I've sometimes wanted to jump in early before anything kicked off....only to see that the subject fade away on its own without any interference from us. Other times it slowly creeps up and almost imperceptibly takes over - to the irritation of many and the bafflement of potential newcomers.

Denshaw mentioned this only a couple of hours ago. As one Lockdown ends, another may begin.

This coronavirus thread is in danger of going into Lockdown.

The difficulty is deciding where to draw the line; everyone has their own, different opinion. It was me who started the Anything Political thread a couple of years ago to try to ring-fence the subject so that it would be easy for anyone to avoid if they chose to; and also to stop the subject spreading into other topics.

No such luck.

I do not envy your task as a moderator. Are you not able to move posts if they are judged to be in the wrong place?  I read Denshaw’s comment which is why I included the comment re moderators that I did. I‘ve said my piece and will be making no further comment on this subject. Many forums have a no politics or religion rule. You can see why. I will be taking no active part in the forum for a while.

This whole CV thing is a minefield wherever it comes up.  So many differing opinions and difficult to say who is right or wrong.  If we were told the truth by more media outlets it might be a bit easier.

Yet your last 10 posts and responses have nothing whatsoever about Nottingham.

This topic Coronovirus has, on this page, more off topic comments than on.

I agreed about the political content and have refrained from posting anything political except in the proper place.

Should the purists have their way this forum would quickly die, you don't believe me? - count the topic titles.

This argument has been raised before but as the 'News of the World' used to claim - 'All human life is here' - (and yes I do know the original quote).

Nottinghamains are part of a big wide world and many  have far ranging interests so, interesting though the slums streets of Sneinton are, tend to comment on them.

We have read and enjoyed long tales of Garden St for instance though many of us have no idea where it is, we have read of interesting recipes, work experiences, seen excellent photographs and heard of medical conditions, shared condolences and commiserations so whether you like it or not this social media. True it has a narrower focus than facebook but it's serves the same purpose though more refined.

The fact most hold qualifications slightly higher than a cycling proficiency certificate is irrelevant. We welcome all comers, it's their choice to engage or not

The problem with a virus like this is that it touch's us in ALL areas of our lives from shopping to politics, not just the city or country they live in, thus the thread drift.

I would urge any of you who are concerned about the situation that we are in to watch this video. It is an hour long but it is a must watch and is of such importance.

So according to the World Expert, Dolores, anyone who has had Covid - 19 is Guaranteed to be immune for life, I must have missed the announcement of that long term study then.

And Covid has no serious effects on people under 50 unless they have underlying conditions, so that means anyone under 50 who has died must have had serious underlying conditions and nobody noticed.

And lockdown is totally unnecesary the virus will just run it's course through the population.

I gave up watching after about 15 minutes.
