As previously reported my granddaughter in law has been transferred from her florist duties to the funeral service.

She has tackled it incredibly well. From arriving home in tears on her first day she is now on a mission. She drives the van and is issued with good pp gear. Collected 4 bodies today. Brings home the shocking reality of it all.

These funeral staff are not on the telly every day like the NHS workers but they are just as important and are taking similar daily risks. Unsung hero's.

Good girl PP, hoping her workload decreases substantially in the coming days/weeks.

Probably similar to most other families, there’s some ‘role-reversal’ going on in our family.  Our two sons are on the phone or messaging us every day checking on us, telling us not to step outside the door, trying to get us have a milkman (not had one for about 30 years), grocery deliveries (some chance of that!), etc etc.  I’ve spent the past 40 years worrying about my boys and now they’re worrying about me.  Nice to know they care!

@LizzieM. Hope you'll have some luck in getting a milkman.  Ours has stopped taking on new customers, also no longer delivers bread, eggs, yoghurt, cheese etc. We used to have a delivery 3 times a week, but that has been reduced to twice a week now because of staff shortages.  We still get the same number of bottles but spread over 2 days instead of 3.   It's still a big help.

We get a notification from Sainsbury's when there are slots available so we are OK there.  We don't get everything we order and there are several substitutions but again, it is a help.  Our son In the village gets us any extra bits and pieces when he goes shopping.  We feel very fortunate.

We are in daily contact with our children and the youngest grandchildren via text and  phone/FaceTime -  the latter being one of the really good things about technology, I think.

Paul and I are enjoying this lovely weather and have been sorting out parts of the garden which have been neglected over several years.

But then I feel so sad for all those suffering such grief and worry because of this terrible virus....

I was allowed again today to take herself shopping, I stay in the car. The local Morrisons had a car park attendant who the happily informed us the queue was over 200 long and was taking 2 hours to get in the shop.

Aldi, car park full so didn't go in. Asda still a fair sized queue so on to Tesco. 30 minutes to get in and people inside were still browsing ala a normal 'shop'.  Loads still not available.

Get up and go earlier?  - this was at 7:30!

Nipped to the local Heron earlier. Lots of room in the car park, got everything I needed in 10 minutes which was only due to standing on 2m lines. Shan't need to enter another shop until after Easter.

On with the decorating!

I need to get to the opticians. I Was speed reading down the thread titles and for a moment thought you’d nipped to the local heroin dealers.

Was walking to the Sainsbury's & Co-op locals on Watnall Road Hucknall: (opposite where the fire station used to be)  there was a Co-op delivery truck reversing into the car park. Word must have got out as there were suddenly dozens of people queuing to get in the Co-op while Sainsbury'a was empty. I went in Sainsbury's to get some grub for Pix the cat as that's all we need at the moment, & I had a Magnum sucker as a treat for myself, hope that's classed as essential shopping. We have a mobile shop van come round once a day & we get our bread & the odd 2 litres of milk off him...

Been down to the local parade of shops with my mask on, feel a bit silly but wasn’t the only one. No queue outside Heron so just had to wait  for someone to come out. Same at the Co-op. Managed to get most of what I wanted although no washing up gloves and I forgot a pack of tomatoes. Still I did get a box of eggs. Won’t need to go out for quite a while now.
The gossip was that both the local Asda and Aldi had enormous queues again. Wonder if the panic buying is back again as the lockdown is being extended?

In the village we still have to queue at the supermarket. It's a new one and much bigger than when it was across the road. Its the same here one out one in and a guard at the entrance making sure everyone has a mask on. ( we have now been advised to wear them). My husband shops seeing as he's at home. He usually goes about 1.00 -1.30 pm when there are hardly any people and he can shop, quickly as everyone almost is having lunch. We aren't struggling with empty shelves and the only thing I've been unable to get is flour, but got 3 kg a few days ago at a local, shop. So today I made some hot cross buns. Did double the recipe and made 50 of them. We had some for tea, gave my son some for his family my daughter will share ours and my next door neighbour had a tray full.  The rest will be frozen for future.

Hope everyone will be sensible and stay at home for Easter. We were getting a bit worried as our next door neighbour the other side has taken the cover off his pool and has got tables organized around. We thought he was going to invite friends round but when asked cautiously what they were doing for Easter he confirmed that they couldn't do anything so " what about going down to San Remo for a walk round and a quick visit to the casino" . Thought we were going to have to argue with him as no no no to friends visiting.

Think we are having a BBQ, it's lovely weather and hope it lasts.

Happy Easter everyone and stay safe.

Just heard our lockdown is in force for another 14 days.

Speaking with an ex colleague at lunchtime who now works as an electrician for a housing association. Routine work has stopped and only emergencies are attended and he was called to a block of flats in Northampton earlier. Not for an electrical fault but to clear the black bags full of waste food dumped down the rubbish chutes blocking the bins and the refuse men wouldn't move them.

I wonder how they feel knowing all that panic buying only led to a waste of food and money...

We  still seem to be having a charmed life here. There are no reported cases of the Covid 19 virus in Grasse or the surrounding areas. None in Cannes either, but fifteen or so in NIce and fifty in Nice.

Everyone in the village seems (or claims) to be following the government instructions and they seem to be working.

We stood outside tonight like many others to show our appreciation for front line services and everything was quiet.  I am waiting to see if anyone decides to come and stay in their holiday home, we are all staying in and abiding by the rules so if they do I will report them!!!!   Here we are an aging population and that's how we want to stay...aging and marinating.

Stay safe. Gem, mum and auntie.

Not everyone will want to view this but I'm putting it out there because it exists. It is a Govt. website which reports on CV cases by local authority.

Just click on it and then expand the map to find your own authority.  It gives a daily total of confirmed cases, though I don't know if it also reports fatalities.

I saw St Helens at 329 on Friday and 330 on Sat which seemed hopeful.

However, it was up to 361 today.  :(.

Looking for positives in the current situation, it’s been a very good way to save money. Spending is greatly reduced because there’s nowhere to spend it.

I haven’t put any petrol in the car for at least 3-4 weeks (and petrol is cheaper than it’s been for years). The only expenditure is on food.

I haven’t even bought much online - the only recent purchase there was a phone battery.

My stock of paint, wallpaper and paste is rapidly diminishing because it's on the walls and ceilings instead of languishing in the cupboard.

To be honest, if this situation hadn't arisen, I'd probably have found an excuse not to do the decorating. As it is, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

RR Boris didn't mention his Italian dr who went to care for him. It doesn't matter whether they are Portuguese, Italian, French, Africans or martians. They are dedicated to the dangerous job they are doing.  Like all the medical staff everywhere they put their lives on the line to save. We have lost over 100 drs through this virus. Let's hope Boris now sees that it's important to do as he preaches because if not he will,be in a worse predicament than he was.

Well said nonnaB,

I hope there is some form of worthwhile insurance scheme that takes care of those that are left after the hospital, medical and emergency services staff have lost their lives in battling to save ours.
