According to an investigation by the Israelis one jab only gives 33% immunity if the second jab is delayed. Although this hasn’t been peer reviewed yet it is worrying as I believe the government figure was a lot higher than that and it appears Chris Whitt’s has said it could be between the two figures. This doesn’t exactly inspire confidence especially due to the governments perpensity (spelling) to cock everything up in every way it can.

Can I take it then that you are not planning to vote for the Cons or any political institution again?

I find it incredible that so many, so called, government ministers and those with influence are so stupid and lack any initiative and common sense for their given role.

I have to wait, I'm only a kid of 72 (until April). 'Bloomin' Cradle Snatcher'.

BK, He must know someone in high places?

We will have to let him off lightly BK. Heart Attack and Diabetes saves him from the wrath of us queueing patiently in hope.

Not be long Miduck, they seem to be moving fairly quickly.

Funnily enough in this part of Notts we do have a mini hotbed of Liberals. At elections there are lots of 'Vote Liberal' posters, especially in Southwell. It never produces any positive results of course but I just wonder who these people are. Southwell is a fairly affluent town and I would expect people to be Tory as Newark and Sherwood is a strong Conservative constituancy

Phil , so are you actually saying that affluent areas should be voting Tory?  Now that’s an amazing thought ..... I wonder why you would say that ....

Carni, I'm in the same boat as Chris, heart attack and diabetic. As a matter of fact, I've had my diabetic care nurse visit this afternoon. It seems I have to go onto injections, ( one a week, not insulin) because the tablets I'm are lowering my kidney function. Still think he beat me to it. Take care, both of you.x

My husband is getting his vaccine tomorrow, he’s 77.  He isn’t classed as having underlying health issues but one could dispute that when looking at his 3 box files of various medical problems he’s suffered from over the years!
There’s a website to log onto and we’ve been checking it for the past week but it has always stated ‘Over 80s’.   This morning I logged on and saw that a new vaccination centre has opened today on the Forest Recreation Ground, just a 15 minute walk from home. The age limit was also stated as ‘Over 75s’.   He hasn’t had a letter as yet from the NHS so he’s done well getting in this quick.  They’ve also given him a date for the 2nd dose in April.

Swiftqueue BK.  Not sure if it’s nationwide but we had to register on the site before we could see much.  It only shows me Notts vax centres.
Actually, in my morning DAILY MAIL (!) there’s an article about a loophole allowing people to get jabs who are not yet eligible.  I must admit I did try today to get an appointment for myself  but I wasn’t allowed, cos I’m a youngster.

My dentist sent me a link to Swiftqueue today for the over 75s which showed me a number of Notts Vaccination sites. All but the Forest Recreation Ground revealed that no times were available but there was one available at 08.30 on Sunday at the Forest site. I went through the process of registering, onto appointments and received an activation number. I entered the number which then gave me a new choice of Tuesday, chose a time that suited and pressed confirm. A pop up writ large in red appeared saying over 80s. Swiftqueue certainly chose an apt name. The Forest site is now over 80s.

That’s odd Dave, several of the other sites have said there were no over 80 appointments in the past week while I’ve been checking, maybe we were just lucky (makes a change!) this morning and got in there before it was common knowledge that they’d lowered the age limit.  Keep checking!

Further to my comments upthread.. I got my jab booked today.  I'm going to the St Helens Rugby League Stadium on Sunday 7th Feb. Here in the North West we seem to be doing a little better than some on the vaccine rollout. .. but we are slightly behind the North East.  All reports about the 'Saint's' RLFC ground say it was exceptionaly well run in the Autumn for Flu Jabs.. and is the same now for Covid.

That said..

My GP Practice put on their F'Book page on Monday that they had contacted  70 year olds.

They didn't contact me.

I resisted calling them because all over everywhere they insist that people should not contact the surgery.. but should wait to be contacted.

Eventually, as all my neighbours of all ages from 70-77 got their appointments from various surgeries. I decided to try to get info from the Surgery F'book page..by personal messages to their Admins.

No reply.

Being more than a little anxious I decided to respond to a Facebook comment on their page.. praising them for 'keeping us all informed'.  That was something of a Red Rag to a Bull.

This a.m. I got a response to the effect that the Practice Manager would contact me personally... This I knew was going to be a 'dressing down'.:wacko: I was told I should have telephoned the practice..that my F'book comments were 'unhelpful'.. and even that I was welcome to find another practice if I wasn't happy! I was told there had been an IT **** up which had caused me and others to be 'missed'...that this was now fixed and that I would get a vaccine invite in minutes.. which I did. So that's all sorted.

I was I think expected to understand all of this via 'osmosis', and yet 'Little Miss Happy' had the bloody cheek to tell me that.. "If you don't tell us.. we don't know". FFS!!!

For an hour or so I was incandescent with rage.. The Surgery has a Website which is still showing info a week out of date. The Facebook page at least provides some info, but blocks comments and queries. And of course all begs the question as to what happens with people who are unable to access either Website or F'book.

I eventually responded to 'Little Miss Happy' at the surgery, via email... but decided to try to reduce the 'Temperature'. I pointed out that lack of info is the worst thing facing people in times of uncertainty. I acknowledged that they are under pressure., I pointed out that I had not called the surgery because everything they were putting out expressly asked people NOT to do so. I pointed out that the surgery Website is always out of date and that there really isn't much of a place for F'book in the mix when comments and questions are blocked.
Finally, on the Quality of Service issue I told her that I have no desire to find another Practice as I have the highest regard for the service I have received from Medical Practitioners at the Surgery. I made no specific comment about level of service from the Practice Manager.

So.. all OK for now... though, having had anecdotal evidence of the antics of a number of Practice Managers. including one who was described as 'going out of their way to be unhelpful' I'm bound to query their role.

And my anxiety.. which I would not wish on my worst enemy.. is subsiding.

Xray results.

Chris spoke to the Doc yesterday. (Afraid he can't remember the word the Doctor used). but he does have small amount of damage on the lungs. The Doctor asked if he ever smoked. He did, but stopped about twenty odd years ago. The diagnosis is that, the damage is either from smoking or Covid. He is not worried?

We hope 'Not Worried is Good News'.

Carni, hold on to ‘not worried’.
The small damage to his lungs is obviously there but may not cause any life changing problems.

I expect all of us who have smoked in the past have some damage, but our lungs are still able to function well.  The same goes for any small damage in his lungs possibly caused by Covid.  Our lungs have a huge surface area for the exchange of oxygen/carbon dioxide.  Apparently this area is about the size of a tennis court!

Just keep looking forward to those lovely warm days when you’ll both be able to do your long cycle rides along the tow path - stopping only to see the ducklings ..... xx

I had COVID late November and was taken to hospital. There for 6 days and then managed to persuade them to release me.

My chest was XRayed and the result was described as follows "There is a very subtle hazy airspace opacification seen at the left perihilar region suggestive of inflammatory changes. Remaining lung fields clear"

Not quite sure what all that means but it looks like there is a specialised language used by doctors when talking about lung XRays.

Siddha, pleased you’ve come through the infection relatively unscathed!
The X-ray report just seems to suggest that there is a very tiny bit of your left lung that is affected.   There seems to be plenty of lung capacity left, so just keep doing deep breathing exercises.....

I’ve been reading that all of us could benefit from doing these exercises whether we’ve had any infections or not... it’ll probably make us cough, but that’s good
