Almost a month ago I saw my grandchildren one of who unbeknown to us had coronavirus picked up at school. He became ill and 3 days later I tested positive for it. I have health issues which class me as ‘clinically vulnerable and have been careful but not paranoid. I have been extremely unwell. Without going into detail which I’m sure you don’t want to know I could hardly move due to extreme pain in joints to the point of being prescribed morphine. I am testing clear now and am up and about but am still far from well. The skin on my hands peeling, coughing a lot now where as I didn’t have a cough until the last few day. Feeling breathless and tight across my chest and generally completely shattered at the slightest effort and still a lot of joint pain. It has been very unpleasant to put it mildly and it seems likely that the long term effects will be with me for an undetermined time. My grandson was only mildly unwell for a couple of days. The other grandson tested positive yet had no ill effects at all and my wife has tested clear throughout.

RR, go where you want but I would recommend you avoid Covid at all costs. It is not good.

You had a really bad time of it, glad you are much improved, although still having some problems. I have a friend here, picking up the virus, never did know how she got it, but was ill for over 2 months. She actually scared us at one point, thought we might lose her. It can be a dreadful illness that takes some getting over.  Others have little to no symptoms.

It's reared It's ugly head because folks have been very lax this last few months. Government lift restrictions and people think it's all done with. Been watching local news down here and watching the figures climbing daily (in Lewes) from low double figures to 224 on last night's news. Suspect a City like Nottingham will be a lot higher.

Letsavagoo, So sorry to hear you have been unwell and hope you will have a speedy recovery.. We tend to think if we dont hear the word Corona Virus, it has slipped into oblivion. Its only when we hear about someone close or just an aquaintance it really brings it home to check your own

" not feeling very well". Keep well and I hope the same for your grandchildren.

A pertinent question, have you been vaccinated?

Sorry but I wondered as most seem to have been vaccinated in UK.

Letsavagoo has been in touch with me during his illness and it sounded pretty horrific. I know he's had his vaccinations and it does make you wonder what he might have suffered if he hadn't done so.

This thing is still very dangerous. Don't be fooled into a false sense of security.

@letsavagoo  really sorry you have been so unwell and hope you’ll soon be back to full health.
It really is a horrible virus.  I hope all those younger than me will go and have their flu jabs ASAP because getting flu and Covid at the same time would not be good.

best wishes, Margie x

I think a major source now is schools. At my grandsons school there are up to 25% isolating. I think the powers that be are just going for heard immunity and letting the schools get on with it which I don’t see as a bad thing. Home schooling was terrible for the kids let alone parents and guardians etc. I’ve been no more or less careful recently than I have been since the start. If anything I’ve been quite relaxed throughout about it. I’ve not worn a mask unless it’s absolutely required but keep myself to myself and don’t mix or socialise much and not had any problem until this.
Thank you all for your messages.

It's a reminder that Covid is still around and causing problems, even though it hardly gets a mention in the media these days.

Kev..I'm not sure what media you watch but BBC News do an update every night in the Six o Clock News.

Currently, infections per day are running at about 40000, hospitalisations at about 7000 and deaths at about 150 per day.

50000 people per year are still dying.

It is not over.

Best wishes for your recovery Letsavagoo. As someone who had the virus, along with husband last Nov/ Dec, I know how ill you can be. It truly is a dangerous illness.

I had first vaccine in Feb, and due the second one in  April, but spent eight days in hospital with Pancriatitis instead, putting my second vac late to the end of April. Husband had his booster  last week, and today at 9am we are off down the surgery (open today just for Vaccs) for our Flu jab, I will ask about my booster because I must be due by now. Probably be told to wait for them to contact me, but no harm in asking.

Be vigilant everyone, take care, we still wear our masks and use hand gel when out and about.

I don't usually see that. I was thinking more of various news website which I see. Covid news now tends to be further down the page. The same figures which made headlines a year ago are now just given a passing mention.

Carni hope you get your booster soon. We are having to wait 6 months after second vaccination so anxiously await the call. Hope you are on the way to complete recovery but along with the problems you have had it will take its time and hopefully doesnt take its toll out of you. Look after yourselves. All the best.

I watch our tv on news 24. 5.30-6.00 pm the update is reported. They also give updates for the various regions which is helpful for people that have to travel. The green pass demonstrations etc apparently went smoother than expected and people were queueing to get vaccinated. So something is working, thank goodness. Our cases are about 2500 per day and 20-40 deaths. The ports are packed but moving slightly.

Did some volunteering at large local comprehensive in the week.  The phrase "they think it's all over" sprung to mind.  No segregation, no social distancing, no masks (and that includes staff).  Kid doing what kids do and mingling in groups and crowds.  I did see one bottle of hand sanitiser though, so all is not lost!

Public places and very little attention to customers health. My husband went to a new bar that only opened the other day. He came back home livid. The new proprietor had a mask curled up on her elbow, no green pass asked for. Was asked ( politely) why was she wearing her mask on her arm. Then came the answer, she didnt believe in it ( why wear the mask on your arm?) She wasn't vaccinated and said she didnt ask for customers green pass either so was carrying on a business irresponsibly. Tell me in a village is this a good idea seeing as we have a few covid cases? ( will check later)

Apparently vigili and carabinieri take their coffee breaks there. I can't believe some one opening a business and not " opening with responsibility" as our slogan was after lockdown. Don't think this bar will last long as the optician next door to her went in for an aperitif and was shocked at her prices. All bars in the village offer a small snack with aperitif's but this was apparently a glass of wine and 2 tiny squares of sliced bread topped with a piece of " Kraft" cheese slice, € 6.50. Prefer to go to another bar and be offered bowl of crisps, slices of salami, a few olives and canapes of various types.

Ready for " Buon Appetito"

Brilliant week walking round Hebden bridge last week. Masks seemed confined to older age range.

Youngest tested positive on Friday, waiting for the PCR result today. Then this morning I tested positive.

PCR test is being fetched as we speak. Typical, no booster notification yet, and the flu jab not until Saturday.

Boris bleats on about ensuring we get our boosters, but the admin is swamped with flu jabs, covid jabs for younger age groups and all the usual demands this time of year.

So far, only hacking cough that sounds like I'm on 20 Capstan Full Strength a day, and a head cold.

Fingers crossed.

Hebden Bridge is a lovely area. Sorry to hear you've fallen foul of the dreaded virus.

I gather boosters cannot be administered until six months after the second dose. If you haven't been contacted after six months and one week, the advice is to call your GP....guffaw, guffaw...or ring 119 or whatever it is.

I'm not due until the end of next month. It'll be a nice treat for my birthday!

Hope you're soon feeling better, oldphil.

I had my Booster booked for yesterday but didn’t get to the appointment so need to book another one but have to do a Day 2 PCR tomorrow so may as well wait until I get the result of that.
