It's a reminder that Covid is still around and causing problems, even though it hardly gets a mention in the media these days. Kev..I'm not sure what media you watch but BBC News do an update every night in the Six o Clock News. Currently, infections per day are running at about 40000, hospitalisations at about 7000 and deaths at about 150 per day. 50000 people per year are still dying. It is not over. carni 10,046
Best wishes for your recovery Letsavagoo. As someone who had the virus, along with husband last Nov/ Dec, I know how ill you can be. It truly is a dangerous illness. I had first vaccine in Feb, and due the second one in April, but spent eight days in hospital with Pancriatitis instead, putting my second vac late to the end of April. Husband had his booster last week, and today at 9am we are off down the surgery (open today just for Vaccs) for our Flu jab, I will ask about my booster because I must be due by now. Probably be told to wait for them to contact me, but no harm in asking. Be vigilant everyone, take care, we still wear our masks and use hand gel when out and about.

I don't usually see that. I was thinking more of various news website which I see. Covid news now tends to be further down the page. The same figures which made headlines a year ago are now just given a passing mention.
nonnaB 4,766
Carni hope you get your booster soon. We are having to wait 6 months after second vaccination so anxiously await the call. Hope you are on the way to complete recovery but along with the problems you have had it will take its time and hopefully doesnt take its toll out of you. Look after yourselves. All the best.
nonnaB 4,766
I watch our tv on news 24. 5.30-6.00 pm the update is reported. They also give updates for the various regions which is helpful for people that have to travel. The green pass demonstrations etc apparently went smoother than expected and people were queueing to get vaccinated. So something is working, thank goodness. Our cases are about 2500 per day and 20-40 deaths. The ports are packed but moving slightly.
The Engineer 542
Did some volunteering at large local comprehensive in the week. The phrase "they think it's all over" sprung to mind. No segregation, no social distancing, no masks (and that includes staff). Kid doing what kids do and mingling in groups and crowds. I did see one bottle of hand sanitiser though, so all is not lost! Beekay 4,411
Had our covid boosters this morning ( me and 'er indoors). Its now 5 hours later and not felt any side effects. Here's hoping. Flu jabs a fortnight ago. Not tempting fate but Covid, if yer watching, I'm ready for yer !
nonnaB 4,766
Public places and very little attention to customers health. My husband went to a new bar that only opened the other day. He came back home livid. The new proprietor had a mask curled up on her elbow, no green pass asked for. Was asked ( politely) why was she wearing her mask on her arm. Then came the answer, she didnt believe in it ( why wear the mask on your arm?) She wasn't vaccinated and said she didnt ask for customers green pass either so was carrying on a business irresponsibly. Tell me in a village is this a good idea seeing as we have a few covid cases? ( will check later) Apparently vigili and carabinieri take their coffee breaks there. I can't believe some one opening a business and not " opening with responsibility" as our slogan was after lockdown. Don't think this bar will last long as the optician next door to her went in for an aperitif and was shocked at her prices. All bars in the village offer a small snack with aperitif's but this was apparently a glass of wine and 2 tiny squares of sliced bread topped with a piece of " Kraft" cheese slice, € 6.50. Prefer to go to another bar and be offered bowl of crisps, slices of salami, a few olives and canapes of various types. Ready for " Buon Appetito"
oldphil 321
Brilliant week walking round Hebden bridge last week. Masks seemed confined to older age range. Youngest tested positive on Friday, waiting for the PCR result today. Then this morning I tested positive. PCR test is being fetched as we speak. Typical, no booster notification yet, and the flu jab not until Saturday. Boris bleats on about ensuring we get our boosters, but the admin is swamped with flu jabs, covid jabs for younger age groups and all the usual demands this time of year. So far, only hacking cough that sounds like I'm on 20 Capstan Full Strength a day, and a head cold. Fingers crossed.
Jill Sparrow 9,677
Hebden Bridge is a lovely area. Sorry to hear you've fallen foul of the dreaded virus. I gather boosters cannot be administered until six months after the second dose. If you haven't been contacted after six months and one week, the advice is to call your GP....guffaw, guffaw...or ring 119 or whatever it is. I'm not due until the end of next month. It'll be a nice treat for my birthday! Hope you're soon feeling better, oldphil.
LizzieM 9,280
I had my Booster booked for yesterday but didn’t get to the appointment so need to book another one but have to do a Day 2 PCR tomorrow so may as well wait until I get the result of that. MargieH 7,423
@oldphil So sorry you’ve caught the virus - hope it’s only a mild dose…: @LizzieM. Thinking of you too x
Stuart.C 430
And it's a 28 day wait after a Positive Covid test before you can have the booster (plus the 6 months from original double jabs). It appears Booster bookings are being done via the NHS website and not Swiftqueue (unless it redirects to there) and subject to having been invited to book. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/
Cliff Ton 10,009
On the 6-month rule my booster comes up in about a fortnight, although I've not been officially informed of it yet. In the last couple of weeks I've been socialising more than at any time since it all started, although I still wouldn't want to be in a crowded, close-packed place. Brew 5,007
Booster booked for next week at Brinsley. According to the letter it may be Pfizer or Moderna. Taking a pessimistic view I've started Christmas shopping - just in case. First time in 70 years I've been ahead of the curve, I'm usually running round like a headless chicken on the 24th... Stavertongirl 1,684
Had my booster jab (Pfizer) on Saturday at my doctors surgery, exactly 6 months to the day of my second jab. Must say the system in place ran smoothly, very impressed with the surgery nurses (not a doctor in sight I might add) who even handled an elderly lady who wanted an AZ booster as that was the initial jabs she had with tact and kindness eventually persuading her to have the booster. However later on Saturday afternoon I got another txt inviting me to have my booster as there were appointments available on Sunday & then got the link to book an appointment. Bit of an admin blip there. I didn’t have any side effects from the first 2 jabs, just felt a bit “off” on the day after the second but still able to carry on as normal. Today I have had a few aches and pains and felt a bit tired but nothing major, still able to walk Jj (between showers) etc. I am invigilating at the school from 1 November so it will have had 7 days to work it’s magic and along with my mask and taffix I will hopefully have everything covered. It seems the “government” is once again sleepwalking into another crisis, don’t seem to learn from their mistakes earlier in the pandemic. Oh well I am doing my bit, just wish other people would do theirs.
MargieH 7,423
When we had our boosters and flu vaccines 2 weeks ago, which were arranged through a message from the GP Surgery, we also got an invitation from NHS the next day. Obviously the surgery hadn’t informed them that we’d already been ‘done’ Not that it matters ….
colly0410 1,180
Had my third jab on Friday, was a bit before the 6 months gap as I start 20 sessions of radiotherapy on 3'rd November & the oncologist didn't want me to have the jab half way through my treatment. He said "go & get it over with." My arms hurting a bit & got a bit of a headache, but otherwise OK...
MargieH 7,423
Colly, all the best for your radiotherapy sessions starting in 10 days’ time. I feel sure many on here will be thinking of you… Let us know how you get on x

LizzieM 9,280
You’re bound to be nervous Colly but you’ll be fine. A few Nottstalgians (and my husband) have gone through this already and at least you’ve only got 20 sessions whereas those that have gone before had 37 trips. You’ll be sorted for Christmas! Best wishes to you.
