nonnaB 4,166
Pfizer vaccine is on its way next week. So it may not be long before we get them. Think we will get AZ one.
philmayfield 4,341
I was advised to 'wrap up warm' when I go for my jab at Newark showground on Saturday. Apparently the waiting area is in a barn!
radfordred 5,444
When I took my Mums neighbour for her jab, we were waiting for over an hour, the doctor who booked her in apologised " So sorry to keep you waiting" She replied with "I haven't been out since March, I am in no rush & it's lovely just to see people" We have to treasure this generation
Stavertongirl 1,458
Can’t believe the deaths have passed 1000,000 it is just unbelievable. Can anyone else remember Jenny whatsherface saying at the beginning that “testing was for poor countries”? That worked out well didn’t it.

Can anyone else remember Jenny whatsherface saying at the beginning that “testing was for poor countries”? That worked out well didn’t it. Shocked at the covid deaths in Uk. I feel like I still live there with the fear of contracting this horrible virus. Heard tonight from a friend in Nottingham and he was telling us about the situation. I have followed it from the beginning and was upset and horrified that the govt weren't doing the things and taking the same precautions as we were. Not that our govt was on top of it all and knew everything but we were told at first to wear masks, then said they weren't necessary but then realised they were. I remember phoning a friend and she was saying she walks her dog around without a mask (her not the dog) I asked her wasn't she worried but she says you were all advised not to wear them and you had no restrictions. Ok we were a few weeks behind China and UK was a few more weeks behind us, but still no mention of masks. what I see and hear from friends is that no one seems to worry , they congregate and go anywhere they want to. publish photos on beaches and woods and cities. I cant help but think that's dangerous seeing as we are restricted to zones. Villages and cities are closed and we are forced to stay in our own community. Yes we also have people that dont obey the rules and that they risk this virus attacking them. We all have a responsibility to do what we can to avoid the spread. Today I saw that Boris had apologised , for what? for not doing what he should have done ? or sorry for all the deaths? Im not getting at anyone, its just a comparison how different govts have reacted. Whether they are right or wrong I wouldn't like to say but I certainly wouldn't like to be in their shoes. I only hope that they decide on the correct actions for all our sakes.

He’s a well known character in Nottingham, many of you will know him. We’re hoping for the best for him. He’s my age ..... Sadly today Alan Askey passed away. He’d been in an induced coma for more than a week and today he lost the fight. Many will know him since the 60s when he was DJing at various Nottingham clubs and then he became very involved with the Commodore. Latterly he owned the Tudor Lodge Hotel (I think Margie and Paul stayed there on one trip to Nottingham) he will be sadly missed by hundreds who have known him as a good, kind man. MargieH 6,657
You are right, Lizzie. We did stay at Tudor Lodge once when we came to a Nottstalgia meet up. I remember Alan seemed a very pleasant man ..... I’m really sorry he has lost his fight for life.
radfordred 5,444
Begs the question do lockdowns, masks & distancing have any effect & does this vaccine even work?
Stuart.C 269
Swiftqueue is showing vaccine eligibility at age 70 now, down from 75 last sunday. Pity I'm only 69.. City Hospaital only has a few slots for today Forest has plenty 1st Feb onwards https://www.swiftqueue.co.uk/nottinghamc19vpatient.php
LizzieM 8,710
They’re now booking ‘over 70s’ and I’ve booked my jab at the Forest on Sunday morning.
Stavertongirl 1,458
Do you have to wait for a letter or can you book at the Forest without one?
philmayfield 4,341
I thought they said ‘wait to be invited’. I do know of people who have booked on line before they got their letter. You need to enter your NHS number which is on the letter, unless you already know it. It’s worth a try, they can only say ‘wait’. You get the date for the second appointment as well. nonnaB 4,166
Lost another friend to covid.
Stuart.C 269
Stavgirl. You don't need a letter and the booking system won't let you book if you don't qualify. I created an account for myself the other day in preparation, as Phil says you need you NHS number, not Nat Insurance number, which is on any letter from a hospital. A friend who is 75 tried to create an account but couldn't so I put him on my account, which allows for family or others to be added. I booked his appointment, for Richard Herrod (old Carlton Forum) when booking with more than 1 name on the account it asks which name to book for. I selected his name but noticed against my name it said Underage for this clinic, so I couldn't have cheated and booked for me. He got both 1st and 2nd jab appointments, the dates of which can be changed but I would guess there are built in limits restricting how early or late you can move the 2nd jab appointment. It asks for email and phone contacts on the account and sends both a text and email to confirm the dates. P.S JUST TRIED TO CHECK ON SWIFTQUEUE AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S CRASHED AT THE MOMENT. The meteoric rise in infections after the lockdown easement would suggest it does and only time will tell of the vaccines efficacy. My vaccination was booked in seconds after a text last Friday, yesterday a letter arrived asking me to use the website or phone 119 to make an appointment. Somethings not joined up but better that than nothing at all...

No, according to most figures we are fourth. USA has 429,000 Brazil - 229,000 India - 154,000 UK - 102,000 And we also have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. And I'm not a big fan of Boris.
philmayfield 4,341
It would appear we have more covid cases per capita in the world but then the majority of people in this country are densely packed together in this small island.
katyjay 4,561
The population of the USA is almost 5 times greater than the UK.

Israel has 9 M and Bahrain has about the same number as Birmingham, (the two highest). It's a lot easier to vaccinate when the population and area are quite small so from that point I think we're doing quite well.
Stavertongirl 1,458
Booked my vaccination for the 4th Feb at the Forest, got second one in April. Quite easy once I managed to get thru to website. Wonder which one it will be especially as Germany is not recommending the AZ one for anyone over 65. Do they know something we don’t?
Brew 4,206
It's strange the EU is screaming for the AZ vaccine produced in England but as yet have not approved it.

Do they know something we don’t? Most likely be Astra Zeneca which is the one my husband had at that site last week, it doesn’t need such cold storage. Friends have had the Pfizer jab at QMC where they have the freezer facilities. The NHS seem to have their knickers in a twist ..... I booked the jab for my husband last Thursday, he had it Friday. It was announced in the newspaper and TV that the Forest site was opening on Saturday and since he had the vaccination he’s had 2 letters from different parts of the country telling him he can now book an appointment. It makes sense to go the Swiftqueue route and do not wait for a letter.
Stuart.C 269
And I wonder what the E.U response would have been if the situation was reversed i.e issues with production here and the U.K asking for supplies from Europe, I suspect I know. I'm sure when the E.U bulk purchase offer was made to the U.K and we refused, the E.U had stated their bulk vaccine would be distributed to the Countries in most need first. Guess what we have the highest rate of infection so would therefore have been in most need. Although I doubt that if we were in the bulk purchase arrangement we would have been given priority when it is approved. 1
