Beekay 4,263
I can think of a few more but it says 20 Best. Like Oz, I can think of some worst 20. It's said the best thing out of Nottingham is the A52, either way. ( Not saying I agree mind).
loppylugs 8,336
That's what they used to say about Edmonton. Best view of Edmonton is in your view mirror.
philmayfield 5,345
Yes, but one A52 leads to Derby and the other way to Grantham so it gets worse!

Beekay 4,263
Credit where it's due CT., credit where it's due. You've pulled me and others out of the quagmire many times. Without NS, I woulda been in blissful ignorance of Nottingham ages ago. It were quite an eye opener to World wide web of new friends. Sounds cliched but true, even Compos jokes.

Beekay 4,263
Mine were a random choice Ian. I picked the names from the the people who have communicated with me over the past 19 months, on various topics. Lots of advice and the odd rebuke when I've dropped the occasional cobbler. No disrespect to others.

DJ360 6,337
Today I started digging a new trench for growing Green Beans. Opposite side of the garden to usual. I have a bit of ground between what we laughingly call a 'patio', and the fence. It's normally topped off with limestone chippings.. as is much of the land between house walls and patios/paths. So I have decided to dig a couple of metres out and use the space for beans. Next thing you know I'll be digging up the lawn and growing spuds.. building an Anderson Shelter and joining the Home Guard..
MargieH 7,393
Col, We planted 26 runner beans yesterday next to the 20 healthy spud plants which I've already had to eearth up twice. Our soil is very good and it's usually quite warm here in East Anglia. The spuds were just sprouting supermarket ones and I cut each one into 2 or 3 pieces, each with a sprout. The beans are several years old according to the packet so we'll just have to wait and see if they're any good! Anyway, it gave us a bit of exercise assembling the bamboo poles to support the bean plants if/when they grow...
jonab 1,643
It used to be the tradition in Hucknall to plant beans on May 12th. Before or after that date and the plants didn't grow nearly as well. All the people with allottments near ours (Wigwam Lane) diligently planted beans on that date. I know it's a load of rubbish but I wonder if any Hucknallites still maintain that notion?
