Sir Sean Connery

Roger Moore used to live in the grounds around Newstead Abbey when he was married to Dorothy Squires. Their raucous relationship was well known to their neighbours, one of whom was Geoff Wakefield of Wakefield's Chemists.

Don't know about that, after my time in Nottingham.

Brian May did run a pub for a time with his wife, Anita Dobson (Ange from Eastenders) in Chiddingfold, Surrey when I lived there some 35+ years ago

Sean Connery has lived at Lyford Cay in Nassau, Bahamas for many years.  A very upmarket gated community.  He used to frequent a restaurant that we ate in quite often when we had a house along the road from Lyford years ago.  Unfortunately we never did spot him, he was the best Bond.

Connery was the best Bond. A very good actor in many other films too.  Looking back...the Roger Moore films were the worst. That was when the franchise descended into a parody of itself.

Daniel Craig is the best since  Connery.

Wasn't the first Bond Bob Holness (Sp), it was a pub quiz chestnut in the eighties!

Wasn't a Bond film fan, hence my favourite was Moore, the Croc's & tennis in the Rickshaw were classic.

Connery obviously had a lot more presence, wasn't he in Hell Drivers? Loved that as a child.

HSR, your right, Bob Holness was the first J.B. I believe it was for a radio play, (somebody will correct me if I'm  wrong.) Hell Drivers was Sean Connery in minor role. The lead was Stanley Baker, supported by Patrick Mcgoohan, William Hartnell and many others. Do you want a copy?

Barry Nelson was the first James Bond in a 1954 TV special Casino Royal.

Bob Holness became the second actor to portray James Bond in a radio adaptation of Moonraker for the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Its amazing what sticks in your mind after twelve years of regularly attending quiz nights, it is quite a common question and turns up every so often and still catches many people out.

I believe I read the Dr No book which I found a reasonably interesting diversion .

Apart from the the first Dr No film I never watched another JB film as I found them all rather silly and which all became even worse with the changing of JB 'wooden' implausible actors.

John Barry, who composed 11 of the Bond themes, was a great composer in my opinion.
We saw him at a Charity event at the Royal Albert Hall and felt very privileged to be there, it was a wonderful evening involving lots of great famous entertainers.
He was married for a little while to Jane Birkin, of the Nottingham lace manufacturers family.  So there’s the Nottingham connection .......
