philmayfield 6,089
Just read he’s been awarded an MBE for ‘services to music’. I thought he was dead. Was it posthumous? There’s hope for me yet!
Stuart.C 483
He's still alive according to the reports. If I was a betting person I'd have bet he wasn't still around.

philmayfield 6,089
Perhaps he’s been locked away. Please release him!
Cliff Ton 10,435
'Release Me' kept the Beatles 'Penny Lane' from being No 1. He can never be forgiven for that.
philmayfield 6,089
My wife met him in hospital in Liverpool many years ago. He was visiting his mother. She didn’t know who he was until she was told!
Jill Sparrow 10,267
He died in 1921!
philmayfield 6,089
You mean there were two of them! A bit late for a posthumous MBE. Do we give them to Krauts?
Jill Sparrow 10,267
No. There was only one. A minor ( no pun intended) German composer. Might have lived in A flat. I couldn't say. The other one is an imposter who is really called something else.
DJ360 6,712
The imposter Humperdink was born Arnold George Dorsey in 1936 and toured as 'Gerry Dorsey' for some years before changing his name to Humperdink and causing endless confusion.
philmayfield 6,089
Gerry Dorsey. So he was German as well!
Jill Sparrow 10,267
Never! Wouldn't B natural, would it? Unless it was accidental, of course.
philmayfield 6,089
I bet he gets pizzicato when he goes to the bar for a coda drink. That’s when he talks with a German accent. He then starts ascending upstairs to his flat for a brief interval if he can find his key. He lets out a loud fortissimo which comes to a crescendo. He puts on da capo and collapses onto his cadenza. His grandma andante come into the room and see him drinking a largo. He does a leggero out of the room and goes for a pianissimo - I cant keep this up!
Beekay 5,094
I'm amazed and impressed that you got that far. Fair play to you sir.

Jill Sparrow 10,267
Sadly, when molto pizzicato, he glissandoed down the stairs and broke his legato.
Beekay 5,094
I would love to Monsewer, but I wouldnt know how to conduct myself in such elequent company. I'll just enjoy the renditions of yourself and the virtuoso melodic Sparrow. Then I'll face the music.

radfordred 6,284
I’ve met the Humpf & his brother who was his double, he lived @ Great Glen he was big mates with Nottingham’s Barry St.Ives, they both played in rival bands when younger & when Barry left the UK The Humpf took him on tour & games of golf, Barry was a good laugh to have around. Bit disrespectful @philmayfield to his family & friends to have this post in obituaries before he’s dead, shame on you, let’s hope God forgives
Cliff Ton 10,435
I've moved the thread out of Obituaries and back into something normal.
