philmayfield 6,130
Born in Canada with a Romanian father and a Chinese mother. Not exactly British then.
Beekay 5,143
Not had a decent home grown since Virginia Wade.
DJ360 6,728
She has chosen to represent Britain and we should be thankful. She's a brilliant talent.

Cliff Ton 10,464
Emma Raducanu and her parents have lived in the UK since she was 2 years old. That makes her British enough by my standards..

Rob.L 1,090
Dunno what all the fuss is about. She’s nearly as British as former British number one male player, Greg Rusedski.
woody 552
She has done exceptionally well and irrespective of her background should be looked on as a British success. We have painfully few successes in tennis and now we have a bright new talent all people can do is pull her apart. Talk about build people up just for the pleasure of pulling them down again.
Jill Sparrow 10,305
Who remembers Ilie Nastase? Pickleface, of the Manning School 'sports department' certainly had a thing about him in the early 70s. He'll never know how lucky he was not to have met her!
Beekay 5,143
Nobody's knocking her Woody, or trying to pull her to pieces. I think we're all pleased that she's doing so well and we're backing her all the way. We have to be careful this doesn't become a slanging match, (mountains and molehills etc). More power to the lass and I wish her all the luck in the world.

Along with the great British distance runners Zola Bud... Mohamed Muktar Jama Farah... footballer Owen Hargreaves... The list goes on... how about Bradley Wiggins? he's as British as they come but is actually Belgian! If they want to play for us good on 'em I say.

He was a good, charismatic player. In recent years he's turned into a foul-mouthed moron, and been banned from several places/organisations/tournaments for being a gobby idiot. Brew 5,416
He well deserves the nickname 'nasty' and to be honest that's all I've ever thought of him..
Beekay 5,143
One bloke I loved to watch, especially in his later years, when he used to have fun.... That is Henri Le Cant, (excuse spelling).
HSR 286
Wasn't Henri a leftie? Like Go on Scratchmyitch...
Beekay 5,143
Only just read that Emma Radacanu has won the Open. Well done lass !!! And she's only 18, so plenty of time to do it again. Congratulations Emma.
LizzieM 9,507
What a star Emma Raducanu is ……. and what a fantastic win. Real edge of the seat stuff and only spoiled by the mardy Fernandez when Emma needed treatment to her bleeding shin. We thought we were having to subscribe to Prime Video to watch it but then found it on Ch4 and it was worth having a Saturday night in front of the box.
Cliff Ton 10,464
Apparently more than 9 million people were watching Channel 4 last night.
catfan 14,793
Then 60 million weren't then !
philmayfield 6,130
I started to watch The Last Night of the Proms but the music was so incredibly boring that I switched over to watch the tennis and fell asleep. I’m happy she won though!
Cliff Ton 10,464
I'm one of the 60 million. I'm pleased for her and she seems a likeable person, but I'm just not interested in tennis.
philmayfield 6,130
I think both classical music and tennis are player's games. I can appreciate the techniques but I rapidly loose interest when watching. I enjoyed tennis when I used to play. I think sports are for playing, not spectating. radfordred 6,284
This was Emma Raducanu playing in Nottingham in June. What a difference 3 months makes. Can I request the 1st post in this tread removed? Anybody agree?
