philmayfield 6,130
After having a regular supply from our eighteen plants over the summer we’ve now got an enormous glut of tomatoes. We’ve got to start giving them away. We only like them fresh off the vine so bottling is not for us. My favourite lunch is a tomato salad where I slice them, pour over olive oil and wine vinegar, season with pepper and salt and eat with crusty bread.
Beekay 5,143
I'm interested Phil. Is it just a plate of tomatoes, or do you garnish with anything else (apart from dressing)?
philmayfield 6,130
Just sliced tomatoes with the dressing. I think that's how the French do it. I think its really tasty. I forgot, I sprinkle it with chopped chives or spring onions.
DJ360 6,728
I 've only got two cherry tomato plants this year. The variety is 'Bella' and the Toms are very flavourful and sweet. I've already given a few pounds away to neighbours. They seem to like them. I also have three plants of Crimson Crush which is a superb variety and grows well outdoors. The fruits vary from around golf ball size up to enormous ones which weigh a pound or more. This variety has an almost solid fruit with very few seeds. It's great in salads or on top of a burger in a bun, with onions.
