clarke38 5
Anyone remember a factory that used to be where the school is now top of Nottingham road/sherwood rise. I used to play on the steps cannot remember the name of it.
denshaw 2,869
It could have been Players.
philmayfield 6,089
I believe it used to belong to Players. A packaging material factory I think. I seem to recollect it was a cardboard box factory.
Cliff Ton 10,435
It may have been Players in its later years.....after around 1940s. On Old Maps it's just described as 'Warehouse'. Now I've just looked at old phone books and it's described as 'Purchasing and Stores Dept' for Players at Sherwood Rise. Prior to that it was a Lace works/Dyers - obviously not Players. AfferGorritt 868
Yep. It was Player’s Sherwood Rise Stores, and was indeed for Packing materials. The Box factory was on Ascot Road, Bobbers Mill. Used to visit both places to take the boilermens’ wages on a Friday. Great guys - always made us a mug of tea!

Stuart.C 483
I'm sure there's photos of it on here somewhere from a previous thread.
Cliff Ton 10,435
There's an old thread which gives a mention to Sherwood Rise, but the main subject seems to have been Players box factory at Ascot Drive/Churchfield Lane. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/16132-my-nan-players-box-factory/? Stuart.C 483
This is it I believe, or rather bits of it. 2nd photo by Robert Lee, guessing the first one is as well. (not from nottstalgia)
Cliff Ton 10,435
The Health Centre which replaced that building is still there https://goo.gl/maps/cALtNKGrCd87uwfG7 but Dr Qureshi seems to have moved on or retired.

I Googled Players Sherwood rise and in one of the results spotted this text and clicked on the link; https://www.facebook.com/nottinghamhiddenhistoryteam/photos/a.1182002901815974/3531346806881560/?comment_id=3531411170208457 There was another photo there which I've also seen before Photo Credit : Stephen Mayes
